Eugene Southtowne Living Center

Southtowne has been open for nearly 20 years and I have been visiting there for a little over 10 years now. It was the first memory care facility in the Eugene area and really set the standards very high for memory care. Now there are many facilities in Eugene Oregon offering memory care but Southtowne still remains the pioneer of memory care facilities in this area. The care team is so incredibly skilled in working with memory care residents. They are highly knowledgeable in treating and caring for different memory disorders such as Alzheimer's and other dementias and they are so good with the residents. I have watched the staff members interact with the residents many, many, many times and I am always impressed by how above and beyond the call of duty the staff go when it comes to caring for the residents. The staff members are very good about calming and soothing the residents if they become confused or scared and they work with them in so many ways to help stimulate the residents senses and memories. They are also very quick to give hugs and celebrate with the residents during good times and milestones.

The facility itself is very secure and has a very simple layout. It is very easy for the residents to navigate their way around the unit and there are many visual cues and items for the residents to feel and touch throughout the facility which is beneficial in helping to trigger memories. The facility is always very clean and I always see the residents out and about the facility walking, talking, listening to music, watching TV, etc. It is good that they like to be around one another and the staff is really great at encouraging the residents to remain active and social. There are many activities for the residents to participate in, activities that are memory care appropriate. They offer the residents different therapies as well and most of the activities are very hands-on which the residents love and thrive from doing. The staff will also have the residents help out around the facility if they are able, it's just little things like folding napkins, but it really helps the residents feel important and needed, which in turn raises their self-confidence, which then can help them in working with their memory disorder through therapies and such.

Southtowne will always be one of my favorite memory care facilities mainly because of the exceptional quality of care but also because of all of the things they do to work with the residents and all of the opportunities the residents have to participate in activities that are fun and exciting yet very beneficial to their memory disorders. I would highly recommend that those searching for a memory care facility choose to tour Southtowne Living Center, you will see the excellence that I have continued to see for over 10 years now.
