Understaffed in all buildings that they operate, nurses are unable to do their jobs properly because of the lack of staff. I guess they are trying to save money but when it comes to putting the patients at risk I would not recommend putting a family member at risk and lack of treatments it concerned me a lot. Margie and rest of the management there would avoid talking to me about these sistuations and would not return my calls.

Alden Gardens of Des Plaines is located on the same campus as the Alden of Des Plaines nursing home and Alden Courts dementia assisted living. The Alden Courts is a separate building that shares the same parking lot; located in a safe suburban area on the northern edge of the business district. While the Golf Road location makes it next to impossible to go for a walk off campus, the Gardens does provide a nice enclosed patio area for residents to use which is nicely set up with seating areas and seasonal plantings when weather permits. There is also an awning area out front where residents will occasionally sit. The common areas are pleasant, with a lobby area and bistro-style snack bar area just inside the front door. Residents often enjoy sitting in this location where they are able to see the parking lot and comings and goings. Other common areas include a pleasant dining room, a warm comfortable library, and a bright open activities area. This is a smaller assisted living in terms of number of residents, so it is nice that it still maintains these multiple common areas. The resident rooms are studio style apartments with a small kitchenette and accessible private bath. There is enough room to bring in some personal items though the square footage limits this as would be expected. The food is average to above average with most meals tasty and appealing. The staff seems to have a less than average rate of turnover, and all are typically kind and professional, providing compassionate care. The smaller size allows staff to get to know the residents better than might be the case at larger facilities.
