I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved into Brookdale Corpus Christi. I made friends quickly. I'm very happy. My apartment is nice and clean, and I like the way it's laid out. It's convenient. The staff is friendly. I have breakfast with the ladies there, and they're very nice. The food is good. They have a bus, but I haven't used it yet. They have a place for my dog to run. My communication with them is good.

Brookdale Corpus Christi was very nice. I like the facilities. They have kitchenettes as well. They had a clean room. Those were the things I looked for. They're friendly, and they had activities as well. I like that they have access to a balcony and outside they can have plants, so that was nice. The staff was very friendly, very helpful, and very informative.

I toured Brookdale Corpus Christi. I liked the staff and the residents the best, and the least I liked was the layout of the rooms. They gave us many food choices and the quantity was perfect. They have lots of outings, lots of games, clubs, and a salon. They have everything for my mother. The dining room was fine. It was more like restaurant style, and it was very nice. They had a very nice courtyard. Everything was beautiful. The place was very nice and very clean.

I visited this facility

I went to Brookdale Corpus Christi. The manager was Rebecca, and she showed me all around. It was nice. The facility was kept up nice. She showed me a couple of rooms that would be perfect. And from what I understand, most of the Brookdale was laid out kind of the same as far as size and everything. So it gave me a good feeling as far as a place that our family members would be happy with. We were mostly in the assisted living part. The lobby was very nice there, they had a little fire going in the fireplace. It was cozy there. And the rooms were a good size, and comfortable, and it was really cute how they had a back door that went out to a little patio in each one. So it was nice. They weren't eating anything when I was there, but the dining area was nice, it was nice and roomy, with plenty of room. Some of the people were playing some card games when we were there. They seem pretty active with that, and in the memory care unit, they had a lady playing like a charade type game with them. So, it seemed like it was nice. The staff were top-notch. They were very nice, very informative, helpful, and encouraging. Visitors could come and have lunch or dinner with them. They had plenty of room in each apartment where they could have a private visit if they wanted to or sit by the fire out, or there was a big TV there, too, where they could watch TV.

Brookdale Corpus Christi was absolutely wonderful. It was more expensive, but it was really, really nice and beautiful. It was large and well-kept. I really loved the layout of the memory care area. It was well thought out and designed. If I was going to design a memory care layout, I would have done it just like that with a central hub and the kitchen/dining activity area, surrounded with the rooms. The lady who gave the tour was wonderful. She was not like a salesperson. She was more of a director of the place, and she was extremely knowledgeable about all the aspects of the facility. She knew her residents quite well. She knew them and addressed people by name. Everything smelled clean, but not hospital clean. It smelled welcoming. It was nicely decorated as though you were in a home with images of the area so residents could look at things and find familiarity with some of the landmarks of the area. There's also artwork that the residents had done. There were certain areas in the dining room where it looked almost like you're going to a restaurant, while others looked more like you were eating at home (because there's a family dining room table around it), and the rest of the areas felt more for an individual. So, people could feel at home and they could find whatever that was fitting to their mood at that time. They have a very consistent routine of physical activity. It could be a walk outside the house or different types of exercises at a certain time. They would have a snack and hydration time, reminiscing time (where they talk about things or bring up topics that were on their minds), story time, and music time. I liked that there was a schedule and consistency of routines, which is so important for people in the memory care.

I went to Brookdale Corpus Christi. As far as the memory care unit, it is very, very organized, and very attentive to the patients. There was a lot of support for every individual patient. It was phenomenal. It was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I saw the dining area, the outdoor patio area, an actual suite, a room, I guess, an apartment, as they call it. It was great, it was very home-like. Everything from the security to the activities that they plan to have a staff member dedicated to those activities, and the daily routines of the patients, a five.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has moved into Brookdale Corpus Christi. It's a small caring unit made up of nurses that care about the people that live there. The activities are great. Everything that's done there is for the residents. I was very insecure about putting my mother in any place but my home, but it's been a very nice experience. They have allowed me to call them all the time. I even have a private number to be able to call while I'm out of the country to Facetime with my mother. They go above and beyond what I thought they were going to be like. My mother is in memory care. It's a small group with only about 20 residents, and the staff is just amazing. The food is good, and it's more geared towards people who can't swallow. The facility is beautiful. They have chair exercises, arts and crafts, they're putting music on while they're having meals, and they went on a bus ride the other day. They took the residents that were able to get out and took them on an hour and a half bus ride around the city.

Brookdale Corpus Christi is perfect for my grandmother. I haven't seen her this happy in years. The community is homey and inviting, it's not too big or overwhelming. Everyone has their own little back patio. The staff are amazing and kind. The activities are perfect for her and her lifestyle. She feels at home and part of a community.

My dad was in memory care here before he died and my mom is currently in assisted living. The Director and Staff here are outstanding. They have been especially caring and good to my mom since my dad died. The facility is always clean and bright with live plants and flowers everywhere. We tried 3 facilities before this one and none could match it. Highly recommend without reservation.

My brother was in Brookdale Corpus Christi, but we were not happy with the care. The facility was fine -- we didn't have any problem with that -- but we found that the facility was constantly understaffed. Medications didn't come on a regular schedule, and meals didn't come on a regular schedule. The staff and the management were pleasant, they tried hard, but I just think they were grossly understaffed. The food was often cold and it wasn't served on a really consistent schedule.

We chose Brookdale Corpus Christi for my mother-in-law because we felt it was right and felt homey. The people are very professional, and my mother-in-law loves it, so she's happy. The food in the dining area is excellent. They accommodate special orders and go out of their way to make it great. The activities they have are great, and the residents can do what they want to do. There are plenty of things going on, so it's wonderful. The staff has been wonderful, and we're very happy with them. We visited other places that were also excellent and costs less money but my mother-in-law likes this one so we went with it.

I was showed a couple of the rooms at Brookdale Corpus Christi, as well as the layout and what was available. It's a place that I might like to live and it has a safe environment. The area I saw was clean, and you can bring your furniture. I like the setup of it. The person who gave me the tour was very friendly, helpful and answered questions that I asked. They have a laundry room, and I visited someone who lived there who had a kitchenette and they can cook if they wanted to. I think it was a very nice place. It's not a new facility, but it's in good condition.

Brookdale Corpus Christi was very clean, and they're actually second on our list. The tour experience was very good. The person who showed us around was very nice, she went over everything and she's very accommodating. The place was very clean. Everyone, the residents, looked very happy and it looked like they're taking care of the residents there. The menu seemed nice and they had different types of food. It looked like they had movie nights with popcorn for the residents. They also had parties, and when I visited they just finished a tea party. It looked like they had a lot of amenities and things they do, like chair yoga. They really try to get the residents to exercise as well. It's a very nice place.

We really liked Brookdale Corpus Christi, but there were just a few of my mother's needs they couldn't meet. We were very impressed because the place was clean, and it was rather large. That's probably our biggest concern, that the place is too big for my mother. The staff member who accommodated us was wonderful. She actually gave us a lot of information that we were able to use when we visited other places. She was great. The dining area seemed adequate as well. When we narrowed our search down, this community was actually our second choice.

Brookdale Corpus Christi was smaller and definitely homier. When we walked in, there was no one at the front desk, but someone was vacuuming, and we had to wait. The hallways and the entrance area are smaller and it's a lot more expensive too. There weren't separate rooms for activities. There was one big room and then the front part of it was where you can hang out, watch TV, and play dominos. There were tables in the further back part of it and there was a couple playing. They had a big dog there.

What an amazing facility! Staff cared for my Dad just like he was their own. They really catered to his needs and he came out of his shell because you made sure he felt wanted, needed and important! All of the activities were perfect for him- he was so social and he had lost that. I still remember his greatest regret was that he hadn't moved there sooner. Thank you again for everything you do every day for our senior community.

My dad has been in Brookdale Corpus Christi for a year and nine months now. They recently remodeled the inside so they're even nicer than they were before. The cost is high, but it is equal to the other communities here in town. Everything is really great; I don't have any complaints. My dad has his own big room. They keep it very clean. Every day they have some type of activity, like exercising, drawing, and dancing. My dad is happy there. He loves to do the dancing part; that's his favorite. He gets to hold someone's hand and dance around. The staff is always very good. The cook is awesome.

I've been in Brookdale Corpus Christi for four years now. It's very nice. I've had a good four years here. It's very good. We have a very good dining room and activity program. We have a wonderful library, which I have helped and worked in. We have a convenience store for people who just need something like milk. We have good bus transportation to and from places here in Corpus Christi. It's an excellent place. I've been in independent living. They have assisted living, nursing home care, and Alzheimer's care if you need it.

We like Brookdale Corpus Christi really well, and they worked with us on the price. My sister is happy, so it's a good place. The staff is great, and the maintenance is good. They come in once a week to clean, and they do the laundry except for your personals, but they do your sheets and towels. They have 3 meals a day, and the rooms are very clean.

I went to Brookdale. It had more of a homey feel to it instead of institutional. My mother-in-law had been in the memory care, and I do not think there were any complaints about their care. My mother-in-law's family was with her most of the day. They had independent living, assisted living, and memory care. They should try to have more engaged clients across the board. Otherwise, it seemed like a nice facility.

They had good information at Brookdale Corpus Christi. The people were helpful, and the rooms were very nice. I think they have a dance night or something like that, and they also have popcorn, bingo, social activities, a computer room, and stuff like that. It was very interesting, and in fact, they showed me how to contact different people for financial assistance if I need to be there and how to take care of myself. It was in a nice area to live.

We stayed here for one month. The environment was lovely, and the staff was excellent. The residents were lovely as well, and we met a lot of new friends. Their apartments are excellent, and it was built and equipped for handicaps. If we had to go back to assisted living, that is still the place that we would go. They do have daily activities, and they would also take the residents out shopping.

It was a nice facility. The room that they showed us, for the price, was larger than the one that my parent is actually living in right now, so that was good. It was the first one we visited and it was very clean. The staff was very helpful, nice, and supportive. We had lunch there, and it was very nice. They had well-laid out menu choices. They had a nice dining area. The apartments and the facilities looked very good. I liked that it was a small unit and easy to find your way around. They had activities; however, the residents that were there didn't seemed to be engaged with each other. Their interaction, like in the dining room, wasn't really lively.

My mother-in-law was here. We chose this place because they had Alzheimer's care. She probably stayed there for one to two years. When she first went in there, things seemed to be okay. The facility didn't smell. However, when I visited at another time, I felt like the place wasn't properly cleaned. Overall, everything had been good in terms of care.

Provider Response

Dear concerned family member,

Thank you for your post! We value your opinion as we strive to improve the care of our residents, staff, and family members daily. I am glad to hear you chose our community because we offer a level of care that was best suited for your mother-in-law. I am also glad to hear that you were satisfied overall with the care your loved one received. In our Clare Bridge, or Alzheimer’s unit, we care for many residents with a variety of care levels. Unfortunately, in some of our residents cases, the disease has progressed to the point that they are incontinent. Also, depending on the resident and their stage in the disease, they can be resistant to care. I am sorry to hear that you came to visit your mother-in-law during one of these times. I can assure you the community is cleaned on a daily basis as it has its own dedicated housekeeper to the building. The care staff works hard to make sure all of our residents are as clean and presentable as possible. We also continue to train and educate staff on methods of care to be more successful in their jobs. Thank you again for your comment; our continuous feedback is an essential tool in our development. I hope you enjoyed your time with Homewood Residence, a Brookdale community.

The reason why we chose it is because they offer respite care and it was excellent. Everything there was excellent. The lady that I met, Angie, was the sweetest person ever. She took us around everywhere. They made us feel at home. I wish there were a whole lot more people like her. The place was beautiful. It was very clean and it really means a lot to us. It was spotless clean. The staff that was there were very cordial. They greeted us even though they never seen us before. They did a wonderful job. The suite that she was in was decorated really, really pretty. It really made her feel like she was at home. I like the place because the hallways were nice and long. She walks with a walker so she was able to walk from one side to other side. She can also exercise. There were a lot of good things about the facility.
