What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at Wexner Heritage Village - Creekside at The Village during daytime and nighttime hours?

Accepted Answer

We have two nurses and four aids on staff at Creekside at the Village during the day all week. In the evenings, we have one nurse and two aids on staff. Given that we really only have 30% of our residents needing assistance - some of which just need med management, we find the staff to resident ratio of care staff above sufficient.

What safety features or security measures does Wexner Heritage Village - Creekside at The Village offer to assisted living residents?

Accepted Answer

All of our hallways have railings on both sides and close circuit cameras.  All of the apartments have sprinklers, smoke alarms and emergency pull cord systems.  Staff have fire and elopement drills every month. All of the doors to the building are locked from the outside at all times. A security guard paroles the campus every evening from 6pm to 6am.

Accepted Answer

We keep an updated list with photographs and bios on residents that are an "elopement risk". A concierge is present in the building from 8am to 9pm every day. In addition, all of our hallways and doors have close circuit TVs which are monitored by staff.

Does Wexner Heritage Village - Creekside at The Village work with an agency or registry to provide nursing and medical assistance as needed?

Accepted Answer

Creekside at the Village is on the campus of Wexner Heritage Village.  We have lots of wonderful care services available to our residents and the community-at-large. We have our own Wexner Therapy which includes physical, occupational and speech therapy, Home Care (companion care), inpatient and outpatient Hospice (Zussman House), dialysis, campus physician with nurse practitioners who make "house calls", medical clinic with physicians who specialize in geriatric care, skilled nursing facility (Wexner Heritage House), Image and Lab (in house and mobile).  Our nursing team helps residents coordinate whatever additional services of care they may need.  We also have on staff a member service relations person who is also a social worker.

What makes the chef or dining program at Wexner Heritage Village - Creekside at The Village exceptional? What kind of menu can independent living residents expect?

Accepted Answer

Food is very important to residents of Creekside at the Village.  That is why we hire only the greatest chefs and cooks that will provide the highest variety, creativity and delicious food for our residents. For breakfast, our residents can essentially get almost anything they would like for breakfast including hot/cold cereal, omelets (eggs any way they would like), fresh fruit, yogurt, breads, potatoes, juices, pancakes and waffles and much more. The dinner menu changes every day, however there are always two soups, three different salads, two or three entrees, a variety of side dishes and lots of dessert from which to choose. Members can also have their meals delivered for a small fee or order their meals for "take out" at no extra charge.

Columbus Museum of Art, State parks, a variety of restaurants, Columbus Symphony, Casino, concerts, lectures, Apple picking, theater productions, pizza parlor, steak & rib restaurant, tour of the city and department stores.

Accepted Answer

At the end of every hallway on all five floors we have lovely sitting areas for our residents and their guests to enjoy. In addition, we have a beautiful piano parlor with a café, free coffee and water station and fireplace.

Accepted Answer

We offer complimentary transportation to all medical appointments to everyone (independent and assisted living) and complimentary transportation to everyone weekly to the grocery stores, drug stores, library, bank, dollar stores and target.

Accepted Answer

Twice a year aids and nurses attend educational classes so they can stay up-to-date with regulations, senior health related issues and care management.

Accepted Answer

We have an extremely good communication system in place to keep families informed about their loved ones. Phone calls are always returned within 2 hours or less.  We also communicate using text and emails when necessary.  Care conferences are scheduled regularly to keep residents and families up to date.

Accepted Answer

We do permit small dogs, cats and birds providing the resident can take care of them responsibly. We have lots of green space for dogs to enjoy.

What programs or activities does Wexner Heritage Village - Creekside at The Village offer to enrich residents' well-being?

Accepted Answer

We have ongoing lectures, seminars, cultural arts, religious,  literary and music programs led by professionals and educated individuals.  We also offer a wide variety of activities and outings outside of Creekside including theater, symphony, ballet, lectures, seminars, movies and restaurants.  We have daily exercise classes led by a certified fitness instructor, a on site fitness center with personal trainer (optional) and complimentary transportation to the Jewish Community Center which is next door and offers an array of physical , educational nd cultural arts programs.

Creekside at the Village is right next door to the Jewish Community Center (JCC) which has been a popular gathering place for the eastside Columbus community for over 80 years.  Residents can also enjoy many churches and synagogues that are very close by.  In addition, we are just minutes from Capital University and the town of Bexley which offers a wide variety of American and ethnic cuisine, salons, ice cream parlors, parks, movies and shops. Downtown Columbus is also just 10 minutes away offering museums, restaurants, theater, movies, sporting events, bars, shops and the Statehouse.,

What places are near Wexner Heritage Village - Creekside at The Village or within walking distance for assisted living residents to enjoy?

Accepted Answer

The Jewish Community Center (JCC) is right next door and features an indoor and outdoor pool in addition to a state-of-the-art fitness center, personal trainers and exercises classes. They also offer an array of cultural arts and educational programs for the entire community.  Capital University is close by and they also offer theater and musical programs. The City of Bexley has a variety of coffee shops, ethnic restaurants, movie theater, shopping, ice cream parlors and much more for our residents to enjoy.

Describe the overall population of independent living residents at Wexner Heritage Village - Creekside at The Village. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?

Accepted Answer

We have approximately 90 residents ranging in age from 59 to 100.  35% of our residents are on a "level of care" which means they are receiving some sort of assistance. Some are just receiving a minimal amount such as medication administration. Others receive more as needed. The average age of a Creekside Resident is 85 years old.  A good majority of our residents are still very active and enjoy lectures, exercise, outings, music, theater and the arts.  We have happy hour three times a week which is a very popular and well attended event. Residents can enjoy their favorite alcohol beverage or soda and snacks while discussing the latest news events and Creekside gossip.  We have a wonderful activity director who is constantly conferring with our residents to make sure their wants and needs are met.  Of course we have the typical activities such as bingo, maj jong, bridge and movies.

Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at Wexner Heritage Village - Creekside at The Village. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?

Accepted Answer

The age range of residents at Creekside is 59 - 100 yrs.  The average age is 86.  Currently we have 90 residents - 30% are receiving some sort of assistance and the rest are considered to be independent.  We have 11 married couples.  Our community is very interested in current events, health issues and enjoys the array of entertainment we have daily. Unlike many other places, we do not have separate sections for independent and assisted living residents.  Everyone lives together in our five story building. If and when a resident needs assistance, the care will come to them. We have aids and nurses on staff 24/7 to provide all the care our residents need.

We offer complimentary transportation to residents for all medical appointments including dental, dermatology, hearing, vision, etc.) . We also offer complimentary transportation weekly to the grocery and drug store, Target, Walgrens,, Walmart,  bank, library, dollar store and more. We also have outings every week to various places including movies, theater, restaurants and special events.

We have a highly regarded private chef who creates the freshest and finest cuisine to our residents. The menu changes every day and there are lots of healthy options available as well.  Low salt, sugar free and vegetarian options are also available.
