I visited this facility

I like the hominess of Amber Woods at Harmarvillage. It wasn't as large, and the outdoor atmosphere was very nice. The staff was very knowledgeable. I spoke to some residents, and they all enjoyed their food there. It is an older facility. They have a kitchenette and laundry services. They have a nice garden area, a nice green space, a gazebo, and a patio. It was just more country.

I knew exactly what I needed to know before moving my parents in. The rooms are lovely, and soooo clean. But it’s the caring staff in The Elms and assisted living that put me at ease. Truly wonderful people work there. They have been my eyes over this past year and I thank you all.

My mom is in an assisted living facility now called Amber Woods at Harmarvillage. It is very good. Overall, they do a good job. My mom's room is very satisfactory. It is a large one-room that is set up well. There is a nice big bathroom, too, which is good. My mom has been very picky with food in the past, but she seems to be very satisfied with the food, so that's a plus. From what I have seen, some of the activities are OK. I have seen the schedule and I have seen some of the activities when I'm passing through there. I'm very satisfied with what they're offering. It has been good and it is above average. The staff is good, and the activities are very good.

I visited this facility

My mom went here but it was way too expensive. It was very nice but when my mom needed more care, they were over the top as far as money is concerned. The person who took care of my mom I will rate a 5. The place is very nice, had a huge dining room with assigned tables so you knew where you were going, and my mom had a suite of her own. The accommodations were terrific. My mom loved the place.

I am/was a resident of this facility

This facility, with its beautiful, spacious rooms and attentive, well trained staff made my transition from post surgery nursing to home safe, comfortable, and affordable. The Director here is outstanding! She provides a safe pleasant environment and her door is always open. God bless these wonderful people!

My mom was in a terrible accident and needed a facility to recover at after leaving the hospital. I called to see if Harmer Village had beds available and was told they did. I therefore asked the hospital to submit a referral to Harmer Village. Suddenly they didn't have any beds available. Ironic that an establishment that sells itself on caring and compassion would turn away a patient that would require too much care and lose them money. Heartless.

Harmar Village seems to have caring workers. It’s clean and offers a wide range of services. There is rehab on-site, transportation available if needed, and a beauty shop that my aunt would enjoy.

Amber Wood has about 120 people, and it’s for those who only need assistance from only one person. If you need two people to assist you, then it’s not the place for you. You cannot have Dementia or Alzheimer’s in this particular facility. They’re very clean and neat. They have a lot of different amenities, like laundry services. They assess you, and they have different levels. They charge you per level based on what you need, like medicines. My mom has been there for three months. It can get expensive, and it keeps going up; that’s the only negative that I have. We started at $4,070, and I just got her second bill, and its $4,686. They’re charging her $166 for her medicines that she’s not taking. They have activities for them such as bingo, arts and crafts, take them out on a bus like once every month, and have dinners offered to the family for $5.35. There are lots of positives, but I have a concern about whether they're going to keep raising the cost. My mom is very picky, and she really likes the food. They give them breakfast, lunch, and dinner and also make them an alternative. They have chandeliers and give then cloth napkins. They have set standards, which keeps the quality of it very nice. This is one of the best places.

My mother has been here almost a year. She is able to speak but does not walk. My sister and I pop in at different times night and day. My mother is always clean and dressed and her room is very clean. I never smell urine. The meals are amazing. Everyone has a large TV and other TVs are in social rooms. My family visited on Christmas and we sat in front of their lit fireplace next to a Christmas tree in one of the rooms available to us. The staff played Christmas music for us and were very friendly. My mom said it was one of her best holidays. The only complaint that I have would be storage. She has a small end table and a closet. We can't bring to many things from her home...but that is a small price to pay for their great care.

My father was in Harmar Village and the care was exceptional. We moved him to Amber Woods - right next door - for extended living. This is only a temporary situation to get him stronger to come home. But we are not happy! He was to have physical therapy in his room but none has started yet and he has been there a week. From what I understand a nurse saw him last Wednesday morning and the physical therapist has 4 days to see my dad. Well here it is late Monday afternoon and no one has come! The place is lovely, food good and the care great but the other services leave a lot to be desired.

There are very little activities in this place, especially if you are on the third floor. They line everyone up at the nurses desk and let them sleep in their wheel chairs. There is no stimulus. Also, they don't change the residents very often so the third floor has a strong urine smell. The only good thing about this place is the therapy. Once you can no longer speak up for yourself, it is not a good place. Family has to be there all the time. I go every evening for my Mother so I can stay on top of things. I want to move her, but am afraid the change would not be good for her. When my Father was in this place 6 years ago, it was a better place.

We had my mom at Amber Woods. One reason we chose it is because it's convenient for us. The rooms were very nice. So far with her stay, we were very pleased.

We liked Amber Woods the best and it was the best bank for the dollar. The place is clean and well-organized. The staff were friendly and they just impressed us. She has a studio apartment with a little kitchenette. They have bingo, art classes, physical therapy, and they also go to the grocery. My mother said the food is good. Right now they seem to be taking care of her needs and giving her medications. It's all positive so far.

My grandmother is settled in Amber Woods at Harmar Village. She has been there about five weeks now. We chose this first of all because of it's cleanliness. Also the facility itself is absolutely beautiful. The price also came in to play. It is $1500 less than the second choice we have for her. I have met with multiple employees and I was extremely pleased with how they presented themselves and how welcoming they were. Their rooms are beautiful. They supply very nice quality furniture. My grandmother's room is probably 500 square feet in size. She has a full-sized bed and a kitchenette in her room. Also she is pleased with the food. She is on a specific diet because she is very susceptible to aspiration pneumonia and they really do everything they can to make sure she is following what she is supposed to be eating. They have a wellness program there five days a week and my grandmother goes to it everyday. Most of the activities are over by 7 p.m. and it is pretty quiet after that, so I would like more activities in the evening.

My mom stayed at Amber Woods Assisted Living & Harmarvillage Care Center. We chose it because of the location. It was conveniently located where it was easy for the whole family to visit her. It was a clean facility although it was a little understaffed. I liked the director and every staff I talked to were friendly and accommodating.

The staff are friendly and cheerful, which is a very good thing for seniors at the facility. My grandmother had nothing but positive things to say about the staff. The facility is split into a few buildings including a small park, a comfortable dining room, a hair salon, and an exercise room. However, outside of the dining room the hallways resemble a hospital, with extremely harsh lighting and a strong antiseptic smell. The staff are all dressed in scrubs, which seems to make family members and residents a bit nervous. If the staff were to wear uniforms or casual clothes, it would make the environment feel much more safe and reassuring.

The staff left soiled rags everywhere, including the resident's bed. They didn't change soiled sheets.

My mother is receiving quality care as her health is declining with Alzeheimer's. She is comfortable and not in any pain and the staff takes great care in providing all the skilled nursing care that she needs. The staff provides updates on her care and always keeps us in the loop of what is going on.

My grandfather stayed here for a while off and on where he was often sent back to St. Margarets Hospital (wouldn't recommend at all) in Fox Chapel. The rooms were very nice and cozy. It felt more like a hotel than an Assisted Living Facility. You were allowed to bring in some of your own furniture (i.e. TV), which there was plenty of room. While often times while my grandfather was living there, but was at the hospital we had to get into his room, but often found it hard to get someone to open up the door (usually on the weekends). We had to call the facilities phone number and get someone down to open up the door. While the staff was friendly, I felt like there wasn't enough personnel there to accommodate the residents.
