I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My 95 year old mother was admitted to Brighten Gardens almost 4 weeks ago, until then she was still driving and living on her own. She as embraced the lifestyle at Brighten Gardens, the staff has been great with her care and comfort. The Executive Director is very hands on and very responsive to our requests and concerns. My Mother has made new friends with the other residents and seems to be at "home" here. The administrative staff has always been available to me and I feel that my Mother is in a great situation at Brighten Gardens. Could not be more pleased.

I visited this facility

I met Jodie when I visited Brighton Gardens of Charlotte, and she was very friendly, very inviting, and she seemed to care. She even followed up with me a little bit afterwards to check on my grandmother. The facility was in a good location. It was clean and up to a standard to where I would want my grandmother to stay. The only thing I didn't like was that you had to bring your own furniture. When I was there, there weren't any activities going on. They were kind of going through some renovations. Some of the things that Jodie showed us will be ready soon and would have been nice. They also had an area where your family could meet up for holidays. You could rent a room. Then they had some nice outdoor seating areas. It was a good environment and it seemed to have a good energy.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband was a resident of Brighton Gardens of Charlotte. When he first entered it, it was very nice, and he was well taken care of. The food was much better than where he had been, which was rehab. He was able to play bridge once a week, and he went on some trips. They had a dining room that they ate in. But quite truthfully, COVID ruined it all. So, the health got less and less, and also the cleanliness. He was not well taken care of at all. I had to go in and change sheets and wash things. Finally, it got to the point where I had to take him out. The girl that dished out the medicine was very good. In general, everything else that I mentioned was horrible. Until they find the right crew, get the dining room up again and do all these activities, I would not recommend it to anybody. The food, when he first got there, it was pretty good. I would say the food was three, but towards the end, they were sequestered into their rooms and handed out dinner in awful foam packages, because of COVID. I would never, ever put him in a facility that has carpeting, and they have glued down carpeting everywhere. That is just awful because I've had the experience of having him at home and having to clean the wood floors at least once every two days because of things. That just went right into the carpet, and it's disgusting. They do have a salon, it's difficult to make an appointment to get into it. They did have a library upstairs.

I visited this facility

My mother is going to Brighton Gardens of Charlotte. Actually, she chose it out of the few that we have viewed, and it is really close to where I live. It is actually in between where I live and where I work, so I'll be able to see her about every day. The rooms are light, airy, and bright. The staff was very pleasant. I didn't have much time to visit with a lot of the staff or anything, but Jodie and Lauren were both very nice and accommodating. They have just about a little bit of everything. It seemed like a lot of activities were available.

Brighton Gardens of Charlotte was the best facility I have seen for my mom. I liked the location, the amenities, and the cleanliness. I wasn't able to try the food, but the area is beautiful. They have hired a new social director. He's from a cruise line, and he was sharing innovative ideas on how he would be communicating with his staff, like having the information come up on the televisions in their rooms. He's thinking out of the box with different activities to help keep people involved. He is a very personable young man. He is very, very good. I think that family members would enjoy it. Just overall, it is one of the best facilities I've seen. There are more expensive facilities, but I think Brighton Gardens, for the money, is still better than some of the more expensive ones that I've seen.

The staff at Brighton Gardens of Charlotte was very professional. I was impressed with the whole facility and the cleanliness of it. That would've been a nice place for my sister to be. We were shown several rooms, and they were all nice. There was a smaller one and then a two-bedroom that she probably would've been in. It looked like they had a lot of things planned for the residents there. Everybody was just very friendly, even some of the residents that I talked to. When we were touring, they were finishing up with lunch. It smelled wonderful. I think they had chicken potpie. It was a real good experience.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has lived at Brighton Gardens for 5 years. Initially she lived in assisted living and then transferred to the dementia unit where she has been for the last 18 months. There is high turnover of unit managers as well as care team members. This affects continuity of care. Family must start over with developing relationship each time there is a change and communication is a constant challenge. There have been a few truly caring caretakers and managers, but a lot of bad apples. I would have moved my mother, but a family member felt a move would have a more negative effect on her than staying. I have had no confidence in her care and must constantly advocate for her. I can not recommend Brighton Gardens of Charlotte.

I really like Sunrise (Brighton Gardens of Charlotte). My tour guide who was a sales representative for them and she was really great and wonderful. I really love her. It was one of the first places I went to. I like the room and I like the way it is arranged. They have a beauty parlor. Overall, the place was nice. It was not better than the other places that we saw in terms of the building, but the grounds were well maintained, and the building was in good condition.

Brighton Gardens of Charlotte has been good. They have bridge, cooking, and daily activities. They serve three meals a day and they have snacks available. It is comfortable and everybody's very friendly. The staff is very informative and friendly. They have physical therapy and a beauty shop.

My mother has been in Brighton Gardens for two and half months now. The staff is very friendly. The facility itself is nice, well laid out, and clean. I have had challenges with the management from finance perspective and establishing the appropriate level of care and communications between me and the staff. It is a great location. She is in a one-bedroom apartment. They seem to have a good number of activities. They have singing, dancing, and spiritual activities. They do go out to shopping places.

I was very impressed with Brighton Gardens. Out of the ones we looked at, I thought that was the best place. They had a lot of activities. I would recommend other people take a look at it. The place was very good, very clean, and very cheerful. The dining area was very nice and very homey.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Unfortunately my mom picked BG to move to when her Parkinson's got too bad for her to live alone at her home. They are constantly raising prices and charging for various things but have yet to provide the care that she needs and deserves. There a very few of the staff that are nice, caring and compassionate but the majority should never be in healthcare! I wouldn't talk to my dogs the way these people talk to the residents including my mom. We just had an increase in moms daily care as she needs it but with the increase in cost, there has been no change in her care. Still extremely poor care! In the past, they have given my mom the wrong medicine but thankfully, she is with it enough to know and questioned it. No explanation was given as to what happened. Moving my mom is not an option as change for a Parkinson's patient really stresses her and makes her Parkinson's worse. I would NEVER refer anyone to BG!

We are very happy at Brighton Gardens. I choose it because it is closer to where I live, and we want to place my boyfriend into a North Carolina nursing home because they give more care there than in South Carolina. It is very clean. The people there are very caring. The food is good.

We chose Brighton Gardens because they had availability, and the age population was the right fit for my husband. He's only been there about two weeks, and so far so good. I am impressed with their location, and I just had a good feel of the place. You just kind of walk-in, and it has a good feel; it doesn't feel like it is institutional.

Everybody was really nice here at Brighton Gardens. It is a real nice place. The only problem with it is the rooms are just small. The dining room is fine and nice. They did have a nice menu as well. The whole place is just very nice.

I visited this facility

I already knew some of the residents and some of the people there at Brighton Gardens that managed it and operated it. The staff is excellent and well trained. They know their job, and they do their job. They do it happily, friendly, and efficiently. That's all that you can ask. The food is excellent and top-level. It is well done, well prepared, and served very nicely. It is top rate like five stars. They have a daily and weekly sheet that they put out for a lot of different activities that they do. They put out a sheet whether it's for bingo or an event on the mall or tickets to a show; you just sign up for those activities. They have an activities director that does that for fun. The rooms are big enough. They are clean, refreshed, and all ready to go. They fairly wash down everything when someone leaves or moves on. Everything works. They occasionally have fire drills so they know how to orderly get out of there. They don't just post it, they do it, and I thought that was nice. The place is very much secured. The doors are automatic to an extent, but at evening hours, they have a special passcode for residents to get in.

This is a wonderful facility that makes the residents feel like they are in a resort. The plan wonderful activities that encourage the residents to interact with each other and have fun. This is not your typical assisted living center. It really does feel like you are in a 5 star hotel. The staff is great. The food is tasty. This is the kind of place I would like to live if I was elderly and could not stay at home.

Price is incredibly high and they keep raising it once you are in. I do not think they give the amount of care worthy of the amount you pay. We had prominently marked special instructions on my parent's medicine schedule sheet, but the med tech at BG ignored them and caused a health crisis requiring a trip to the hospital. It was the most important piece of information we gave them upon her arrival there.

I visited this facility

I visited this facility while assisting a client with locating short term care for respite purposes. The facility is located in a gorgeous neighborhood in Charlotte (South Park) and it offered a friendly, clean, bright, and very inviting environment. It has somewhat of an upscale hotel feeling to it, yet offers everything that you would expect of an assisted living facility as far as safety and care needs being met. Upon entering the facility I was immediately greeted by staff and welcomed into their building. The building is very bright and offers much natural sunlight, which was something I noticed immediately. I saw both a wonderful garden like outdoor area (where two residents were enjoying some conversation with what appeared to be a staff member on a park like bench) and a really nice dining facility and library area (where it appears many activities such as bingo, crafts, and exercise take place according to the extensive activity calendar that I saw while visiting). I did not actually see a scheduled activity going on while I was in the facility, but I also did not notice a lot of residents sitting around, appearing to be bored, or seeming to lack social stimulation. I did see more than one staff member engaging a resident in what appeared to be more personal conversation and "unofficial" activities (one staff member was reading a book to a resident for instance). The facility offers monthly visits by a registered nurse but trained staff, such as CNAs, are always in the building and the staff seemed well versed on handling emergency situations and transfers should that become necessary. Staff seemed very competent in their duties and the family member I was working with felt very comfortable with the idea of leaving their loved one there for a week after speaking with a few staff members. My client did ultimately stay at Brighton for a weeks time and later told me that the stay was enjoyable. Though my client was glad to return home after the stay, they did say they would be willing to stay again in the future if the need arose. The family also stated they were happy with the decision to use Brighton Gardens and would return there for future respite care. I would recommend this facility to others needing such care, or even for longer term stays.
