If you are looking for assisted living care in Cape May County, I would highly recommend Brookdale! Stacey in admissions makes the process of moving loved ones in very easy. She is extremely helpful and always welcoming. It can be difficult to transition from home to a care community but Brookdale makes it easier because it feels like home. Always impressed with the cleanliness of the building, resident rooms, common areas and the care of the staff and the programs offered.

The people at Brookdale Cape May were very pleasant. However, the person I made the appointment with and whom I had spoken to twice on the telephone, was on her day off when I went for a tour (I was given the impression that I was going to meet with her). So, another person was going to take me around for the tour. She was the head of the nursing department and she showed me some of the common areas, the dining room (which was not in use at the time), plus its outdoor patio, and the model apartment. She was knowledgeable and friendly, but she didn't seem very interested in trying to find out what I was looking for. She did not offer to show me either a one-bedroom or a two-bedroom apartment or what type of apartment I was interested in. The dining area was spacious. The tables were set apart from each other at a comfortable distance. It was a nice, well-lit room with plenty of windows. They had a very nice parking lot, but there didn't seem to be any additional area where you could go for a walk or just go sit out on a bench and enjoy sitting under the tree. They didn't seem to have a lot of additional property available.

We toured Brookdale Cape May. We found out some pricing and things like that, but we were not happy with the facility at all. Four people walked over a dirty tissue and not one picked it up, which is a lack of detail to me. We went into the room that they use to show and there was a dead bug in there. We went into another room, and there was a dead bug in there as well. It looked like a brown roach. You also could see that there was water seeping through the wall. The staff who gave me the tour was not very knowledgeable. My husband used the restroom that could be used by anyone, and he said that the trashcan was overflowing, and it was not attended to. There was no attention to that restroom at all. And two of the four people that walked over the dirty tissue, two of them were the housekeeping department and the other one was the ambassador for the facility and the other one was the woman who was talking to the nurse/sales.

I like the people that I met at Brookdale Cape May. The facility was nice. It wasn't the newest or greatest, but it seemed very clean and very engaging. The people that work there are very engaging with the people that stay there. They offered all the choices that you would need for assisted living. They answered all my questions. I was pleasantly impressed with them. They had refrigerators in the unit. No microwaves and no range, it's just the refrigerator. The person who took us around was very engaging and very knowledgeable. The facility was not new, but aside from that, it was very good.

I did a tour of Brookdale Cape May. At that time, memory care was not available due to Covid protocol, so I was only able to go to assisted living. It was very good. The staff was very knowledgeable. It was a larger community, and everyone seems happy. The rooms were nice. It was larger than I expected and has a large bathroom.

The community of Brookdale Cape May was very welcoming. When I went in, I was met directly by one of the staff and sent to a conference room that was right off the lobby where I could see the activity of the residents. They were going in and out and everybody seemed to be jovial. There were also quite a few people just sitting out in the front, enjoying the sun. The director came down, met me, and left me in the hands of her staff, who were great people. They were very informative. They answered all my questions and offered things that I didn't think about. Everybody was very professional, very warm, and welcoming. They took me to the dining room and showed me what a studio apartment would look like. The dining area looked like a big restaurant. They had tables and nice chair setups. The facility was clean and it didn't have odors.

I went to Brookdale Cape May to see the memory care part and it was very nice. The lady in the admissions office was very nice, too. She talked to me about a lot of different things, and everything looked clean and neat. The room seemed nice and clean and the people seemed happy. They were sitting there, some were playing cards, some were chatting with each other, and they had this little place where they could sit and there's also a gym. It was just nice.

Brookdale Cape May was nice. It's a little bit out of my mom's price range right now. Right now, all her expenses are paid for through Medicare. It sounded like going there, she would get the care she needs, but she would be paying for it out of pocket plus the rent. It was a very nice facility, but it wasn't totally clear how the different services would be paid for. I understood the rent part of it, but not how to pay for the medical side of it. The staff was very pleasant and very caring. It looked like it was kept up nice. My mother and I both said it didn't smell. I've been in some places where you just walk in the door and that smell hits you. They pretty much had everything like shuttling people out to dinner activities and in-house activities. My mom is very sedentary, so a lot of these things she wouldn't participate in, but at least they were there if she so desired. We saw the dining room and we saw a studio apartment, and that was very nice. She could bring her own microwave and cook things in there if she wanted to, but as far as eating in her room, she'd have to pay an additional amount for them to bring her food to the room. It was pretty much you had to eat in the dining room whether you wanted to or not or you had to pay an extra fee (that didn't sit well with her).

My stepmom has only been in Brookdale Cape May for a little bit, but so far so good. The facility is nice, it seems a little dated, but they keep it updated nicely. Right now, with COVID, there's not much going on there. Everyone has to get tested before they can go in. It's very expensive; they nickel and dime you for everything, but that's supposedly the norm. They gave us some cookies once, which was nice. I haven't met that many people, but the staff seems nice so far. For $6,000 a month that's really a lot of money, but it's only gonna go up.

Brookdale Cape May was okay. The staff wasn't quite as professional and the facility itself was kind of dark. The residents didn't seem very happy. Nobody seemed to be smiling or laughing, so it's kind of sad. The dining room was pretty. On first impression, it just wasn’t for us.

I visited this facility

We visited Brookdale as an option for my parents, as it is no longer safe living alone in their current home. They do not yet need "assistance" but will within the next year or two. Brookdale is a lovely community that offers a variety of apartments, from studio to 2 bedrooms. The apartments are small, but most residents will spend a good part of the day in the common areas. The apartments have a small kitchenette with a refrigerator. Residents can bring their own microwave. Brookdale cleans residents' apartments once a week. And if you want them to, they will even do your laundry once a week. Brookdale's dining room is set up as a restaurant where residents order their meals off a menu. If residents are not hungry, they can take their meal to their apartment at no additional charge. Brookdale also has a bistro, that residents can go to 24/7, to grab a bite to eat from a stocked refrigerator. Brookdale offers a variety of activites throughout the day. They have a bus that takes residents shopping and on other excursions. I highly recommend Brookdale!

My dad lived at Brookdale Cape May. Our experience was very good. His room was big, clean, and they freshly paint it when you come in. The staff and services were good. The food was good and the dining room was nice. They have a recreation room where they do all the activities. I would highly recommend it.

We saw the whole community and we thought Brookdale Cape May was wonderful. We would take our parents there in a minute. The staff was friendly, helpful, and had plenty of time for us. We didn't feel rushed. The apartments were beautiful, well kept, updated, convenient, and very nice. There was a group singing and community people were there enjoying the music, it was very nice. I would recommend them to others. We loved it. It's perfect. We chose that one to look at first because it did have good recommendations already and the recommendations were true.

The staff was wonderful at Brookdale Cape May (Formerly Emeritus at Cape May), and the place was beautiful. We would love to have my mother-in-law in there. The rooms and apartments were very nice. The dining setup seemed very nice as well. I guess what impressed me most was the professionalism of the people. They were very courteous and very helpful.

We went to Emeritus at Cape May. I think they were recently bought by another company. I think the thing that bothered me was the fact that it was a very difficult population to please. They had a wide spectrum of abilities and disabilities. All nursing homes talk a very big deal about all the things they do and how active they are, but when it proves down to it, it is bingo, bingo, bingo, and more bingo. My mother was looking for a place that had a lot of interesting cultural events and a lot of bus rides to some interesting places. Every time they had a bus ride and there were not enough people signed up, they would cancel and say they are going to play bingo instead. When you are spending some $5,000 a month, and you keep being told to go sit down and play bingo, that is going to annoy you. I have to say it annoyed me too.   I think the care was good. The rooms and apartments were fine. They were all clean and nicely taken care of. She hated the food, she hated the activities, and she complained nonstop about everything, but from what I saw, they did a very nice job. The only thing I could criticize was that they tend to be very choosy with the bus rides, probably because it was a lot of work. The dining room was very nice, clean, efficient, airy, and attractive. They did not have much activity. They made baskets, and they did finger painting. Sometimes, they would have shows, like a guy would come and play his guitar. They are now a different company, and they may have cleaned their act up. This was when it was still Emeritus. Hopefully, it is changed by now. They really should be more into what the people want and stop feeding them ice cream, sodas, and bingo.

My mother needed to be placed into an assisted living when she could no longer take care of herself. This is never an easy decision to make and you do need the guidance through this process. I felt that the staff at the Emeritus were extremely helpful. There are many levels of assisted living facilities, to very-high-end to ones that looked like nursing homes. The Emeritus is not the "Ritz" of assisted living places and my mother would not have been comfortable at these places. But, it is the closest thing to a second home. My mother has been at the Emeritus for over a year now and has adjusted very well. She has a two bedroom apartment which has the largest living space I had seen anywhere. The Emeritus is very clean, the food is good, and the people that work there are extremely helpful. I also like the fact that it is not too big and is laid out nicely. You basically can't get lost! I have never been into the memory unit, so I can't speak about that. They also decorate very tastefully for the holidays and invite family members to different free dinners and events. But, I do love the location because it is close to Stone Harbor and the beautiful beaches. During the summer, we take my mom to sit by the beach or on a pier to look at the boats in the bay. I always said that I would NOT put my mother into a assisted living facility where I would not stay myself. Well, I have stayed with my mother in her apartment numerous times when visiting from New York. Not many people can say that they would want to stay with their loved ones in their assisted living place, but I have! That is proof enough that it is good place. Finally, the Director and staff are very flexible and try to make things work for each family. In the end, there are all different levels of places and this was the perfect place for my mom!

The visit at Emeritus at Cape May was disappointing. We really didn’t care for it. The place looked like it was not well-kept. They definitely could use a power washing of that place because there’s a lot of mold on it outside, and it should be cared for better. I really wouldn't want to move into that. The staff was alright. There were no real problems there. I just think the facility didn’t appear that great.

Emeritus was nice. The place was very clean. The facility itself was very well maintained. The people were personable. The rooms were small, but they were OK and very clean. It was a nice place, and if I needed assisted living, I would have taken that. They basically showed me around the eating area, which is nice and clean. I myself would recommend it to someone.

It was great, as soon as I came, there was somebody who sat down with me, asked me questions and filled-up the forms and then we took a tour of the place and it was very nice. Everything is fine.

My mom has just moved in at Emeritus at Cape May. She has dementia and they have a good memory care unit. It is very nice, very well-kept and very clean. I like this facility for her. She has a very big private room. Also their staff are nurturing and attentive and their food is good. She is happy there.

Both my parents are at Emeritus. My mother is in the Memory Care unit and My father is in an apartment. They have been married for 65 years and it was hard to find a place where they could be together yet have mom get the extra care she needed. We are very pleased with the quality of care and the kindness we have experienced. It is a beautiful place and we are all very happy that my parents chose Emeritus.
