I have been visiting Rackleff Place (most people know this facility as Rackleff House, it changed to Rackleff Place around 2010) for a little over 4 years now and in that time I have seen this facility grow and become a better home for the residents. They seem to constantly be striving to move forward and to make the community the best it can be, I have never seen them at a stand still and I have never seen them take steps back - they are always researching, exploring, and implementing new ways to be better and because of that I have seen this small facility grow in more ways than I can count. The residents really benefit from this growth, after all it is for them, but they benefit from it immensely whether it is introducing them to new programs and opportunities, care plan improvements, better organization in running the different departments, and so on. Anything that they do to better the community is ultimately bettering the quality of life for each resident and for that I am truly thankful to the management team/support staff for constantly trying to be better for the residents.
The community is a very simple, but lovely, community. It is because of it's simplicity that I find it to be so home-like and comfortable. It's a very small community with a resident capacity of around 25 to 30, so the community is very close-nit, the residents really are very close with one another, like a family. They always tell me that they love spending time together and celebrating holidays and birthdays together. I have had so many residents talk to me about the parties and celebrations they have here, about how much they love when their families, friends, and staff are able to all come together. They love spending time with each other and being able to enjoy the special occasions with one another. Whenever I walk in to this building I can just feel the easy-going and relaxed atmosphere. As soon as I enter the facility I can always hear the sound of conversation and laughter filling the common areas and it just sounds so inviting. I also like that even though the staff members know me by now, they never fail to greet me when I enter the facility. They are all so friendly and helpful, they are always going out of their way for not only the residents but for all of the visitors as well. I am so appreciative of how welcoming they are to family members, friends, other visitors - they are on a first-name-basis with many of them which makes the interaction even more personal. They know each resident on a very personal level as well, they know the residents personalities and preferences very well which makes the care provided to each resident very individualized and meaningful. I worry that sometimes they may be a bit too attached to the residents, which can make it very hard for them if the residents ever leaves the facility, but on the other hand, this attachment the staff have to the residents makes the quality of care that much better - so while I worry for the staff members, I see that the residents are receiving the personalized and loving care that I wish all residents everywhere could receive.
There are many opportunities, programs, activities, field trips, social events, celebrations, etc. etc. etc. that the residents have the option of participating in. I have found that EVERY resident in the building participates in at least one of the scheduled activities which is wonderful. The activities and events always seem to get the common areas packed full with residents, families, and other guests. Family involvement is highly encouraged and families are ALWAYS welcome, day or night. The families seem to be as comfortable around the community as the residents are which I am always thrilled to see in a senior living facility. There are also many amenities and services which are available to the residents in order to make their lifestyles as convenient as possible.
Rackleff Place is a great community full of wonderful and caring people. I encourage those searching for Assisted Living facilities to take a tour and get to know some of the residents and staff members, talk to them and ask as many questions as you like as they are always happily willing to answer them. I hope that you will take the opportunity to visit and experience this wonderful facility.
