I am a friend or relative of a resident
The Cottage at Artesia Gardens is just three blocks from my house. My dad has been there for about four months now. He shares a room with another resident. Everything's fine in there. They have doctors that come in to check the patients regularly.
I visited this facility
This is a family owned organization, and it was very warm and had a home feeling. I was greeted by a staff member who was eager to answer my questions and show me the facilities. The residents seemed to be well cared for as well as they seemed alert and with bright affect. The residents seem to be happy to see a new face. Several of them followed us around in their chairs and walkers and were happy to also chime in on how the liked the facility. The decor was nice and it seems as if they have done some remodeling in the recent past. The dining area is attractive and the residents said the food is good. They seem to have an active calendar and keep the residents busy. They have groups come in for entertainment and religious fellowship. There were several gentlemen and ladies playing cards and were having a good time. The facilities were clean and the rooms were good size bright and airy. This place seemed to have a family feel and it was warm and inviting. The staff was friendly and well informed and knowledgeable about their duties. Hospice and Alzheimer’s care are both available if the needs arise for these services. Family and friends are welcome at all times and if there is celebrations for a resident the staff will help facilitate the event as much as possible. I would place a loved one here. Very nice and comfortable facility.
The mother and son who run this organization have been involved in the memory care business for over 15 years. A renovation which took place a few years ago has allowed for Artesia Gardens to blossom and prosper as a up-and-coming community. On one visit, I saw a caregiver calm a man by validating his feelings. Apparently, the man believed that someone had stolen his wallet. Instead of telling him that no such wallet existed, the caretaker, asked the person with dementia several open-ended questions. This allowed for the person with dementia to share this feelings, concerns, and emotions with her. It gave me a feeling that Richman Gardens takes pride in selecting employees who are compassionate.
