I like that Atria Riverdale was immaculate. It was high end as far as comfort, their rooms, and the overall look and feel of the community. In terms of one-to-one service for each member that was there, and what they would provide as far as activities, ongoing exercises, rehab, and other activities for memory care, it was very evident. I would have loved to be able to have my mom there, but the cost was out of reach since they were private care programs. They wouldn't accept my mother's insurance for coverage of that care. They showed me a common area and a restaurant. They also had what looked like a really good rehab and exercise facility. There were comfortable seatings for the common areas, a very at home living common area. Just very high end for people to definitely feel as if they were in their own home setting (a very comfortable setting). The staff who assisted me was extremely down to earth. She really talked to me and shared both her personal experience and was very empathetic and an extremely good listener when it came to hearing what was happening with my own mother. She wanted to help me as best as she could. The place definitely appeared very clean, very orderly, and secure. They have a security system in place with the elevators, so it would be very difficult for someone to just walk out. My only downside was their parking. They had a garage, but other than that, to be able to find parking in the area would be extremely difficult. That was the only drawback, but everything else was very top/high-end. From what I saw, everything was very clean too.

My parents moved into Atria Riverdale. They have a lot of activities. The facility was clean. The people were very friendly. They have a doctor on staff. They have a restaurant where they go down and have their breakfast, lunch, and dinner served to them. They have daily house cleaning, which is very important. It was very impressive. It's expensive, but it's one of the nicer places that I've seen. The residents get their medications and some other services if they need them. They have a movie theater with plush couches and popcorn where you can pick your movies. They have somebody from outside come in and do entertainment. They go out into the community. They have chair yoga. They have a beautiful outside sitting area. I tried the food, and I liked it.

I toured Atria Riverdale yesterday, and I was really surprised with all the activities they have. It was a really beautiful place. The bedrooms were nice, bright, and airy. Everyone was so friendly. The dining hall looked like a restaurant. The staff was very friendly and very nice. There was a theater room and they have entertainment that comes twice a week. They had a salon, a computer area, and a library. There was a room where they did activities, like painting and drawing.

I chose Atria Riverdale for my mom. I liked the location, basically. I live in Manhattan and Riverdale is about a $48 cab ride, and I don't have a car, so other places were much more inconvenient. She hasn't actually moved in yet. We're just moving her in now. We just had cable put in, then we're just having furniture. So she actually hasn't moved in yet. They don't have any appliances. They have a microwave. But if a person wants a coffee pot, or coffeemaker, they'd have to bring that. What they did supply is a bedroom set, like a bed, a nightstand, and dresser. They have that. But basically, the apartments are empty and people bring their own furniture. The staff was very helpful, very nice. We tried the food, it was fine. I was there and we were around the cafeteria area and the floors were kind of sticky, but overall, it seems clean. In the back they had a patio area.

My mom has moved into Atria Riverdale. What we like about it, personally, is it's four blocks from my mother's apartment. It's one building, so it's a little bit smaller, and I think for her, it's more intimate that way. Everyone's very friendly. She has enjoyed the food, although lately, she's saying she's not enjoying it as much. Unfortunately, during COVID, they haven't been able to do many activities, but she enjoys the exercise classes. She likes the instructors, and she is doing the exercise program and participating in that. Everyone is very friendly there. I think the COVID is the only thing in question. They were having a hard time getting the booster shot given to their residents. And they've hired some new people, so there have been some transitions during this time as well. But other than that, my mom seems pretty happy. She has a nice room, and she loves her view. It's pretty easy to get around. It's small, and the building is located right next to downtown, so you could go out and walk and get to a restaurant or a store. It's nice that way. I live in D.C., so I don't get to see her too often. So, this is more from my few visits and what I hear from my mom. It's very nice, it's well-maintained, and it's beautifully renovated. They seemed like they were offering a lot of activities. It's limited to COVID, but they always have a movie, and there's a piano player, a concert, or a talk. Of course, I think they do bingo every day for the bingo people. Without COVID, they had a trip into New York I have been told, or to Wave Hill, which is a nice garden nearby. They have been unable to do that, unfortunately. It was really lovely, for my mother's birthday, they brought flowers and balloons, and they sang Happy Birthday to her. It was nice. It feels more like a family. Value for the money is good. We were looking at her coming to Northern Virginia where we live, oh my gosh, it's a lot more here. I would say it's good value for the money.

I live at the Atria Riverdale. They have memory care and I'm not in that. I live in my own 1-bedroom and I love it here. I've been here since 2019. I love the apartment, the housekeeping is great, and reception is great. I love the peace and quiet, too. There are many activities but during the lockdown, there weren't as many obviously for safety reasons. I love the art lectures and the exercise classes, but that was more before the pandemic. The activities are starting again. We get an activity schedule every day at the front desk. The lobby is beautiful, and the patio is beautiful. There is a new chef and the food is terrific. Housekeeping is once a week and is really good, they come in to do the garbage every day and they vacuum. Activities are terrific. They have people from the outside coming in. We have a terrific Engage Life department to help and make sure we're doing activities. For a while during the pandemic, they made a schedule, and visitors can only come one hour, but now they're back where we could have visitors when we want. When visitors come in, they're still taking their temperatures and everyone here. During the lockdown, they were taking them twice a day and they asked us to report symptoms. They were bringing meals to all the rooms during the pandemic, but you could continue with that program whenever you want. I take advantage of that where you could have meals in the apartment. There's a little bit of a choice with the main courses, fish or beef or chicken, and you could put substitutes. There's a beautiful dining room that was closed during the pandemic. I used to go to the pretty dining room. We're on the Henry Hudson Parkway, but I find it very quiet. I'm really happy with the director. They're really not a medical facility, but there is a nurse on the premises. If you need help, they would sort of guide you and their LPNs. There's medication management and that is extra. They would bring you your medicine if you need it and they manage and order the refills. They're in touch with the doctors too if the refills start to run out. There are computers downstairs, a library with books, and a movie theater. I'm doing a lot in my apartment because it's peaceful and quiet here. I've been able to do things here that I wasn't able to do at home because I get help with the housekeeping and with the food. There's a lot of activities going on now, and we get a schedule every day. There's a lot of warm friendly people, too. There's care level zero, one and two where you could pay extra and they'll come and help you with the shower, escort you to the dining room or do room checks. You can have private home health aides on your own, too. Atria Riverdale is more reasonable than others. I think it's a fairly good deal for the money because housekeeping and food is included in it and they've got beautiful apartments. They also have studios that are less money and much larger 1-bedrooms. The kitchen is like walk-in, there's a microwave, no stove, a refrigerator and a really nice bathroom that's marbled, and the sink is marbled. It's a spacious bathroom shower and no bathtub. There's 24-hour concierge service and mailbox. I feel safe here and secure. You get a key with the door fob. I've never had a problem here with stealing from the outside. It's very clean, too. During the height of the pandemic, they were sanitizing the place and all of that. We have elevators. Social distancing has been going on with the pandemic, where they only allow a certain amount of people in the dining room, mask mandate, they separate the chairs, and there's not too many people in one space. There's only a certain number of people allowed in the movie theater. They're following the rules and regulations for Covid. For visitors, too, they have to be screened and answer questions. My mother came about a month ago. They allowed it for an hour and they were allowed up in my apartment, no more than three people for an hour. Now, it's resumed where they could come whenever they want and as long a time as they want and it doesn't just have to be in the apartment. I'm not here for memory care or memory issues. I just needed a quiet calm place where you get assistance with housekeeping and food. You're allowed to have private or agency aides here if you need extra help. Everyone gets assigned to a residents relations counselor and you could call upon him as issues come up. They take email and phone calls, and that's an important piece.
