Poorest of care & Only care about money. The Doctor over all the residents is incompetent & doesn’t care. The staff are lazy & don’t know what they are doing. My relative went in healthy but caught numerous infections that could kill. Terrible with small dirty rooms.

I visited this facility

St. Martin's in the Pines was a very nice facility. It was a little pricey, a little bit more than I could afford to pay up for. The rooms were nice and roomy, the facility was very clean. I didn't get to meet a lot of the staff, but the young lady that was the intake person, she was really nice. She even called me afterwards, and every now and then she'll still call to see how things are going. They were doing some activities when I was there. The staff was very welcoming, personable, and caring; she did show care and concern. The facility was very clean and well kept. There was no swimming pool, but they have a garden. The upkeep was very good, the grass was cut. The apartment was spacious. They had single and dual rooms. If you wanted to be just the one or if you wanted to have a roommate or something, you could. It was roomy enough for what I was looking for.

We have chosen St. Martin's in The Pines for my mom. It's a nice facility, it's been around for a while, and it's close to my sister's house. They have a courtyard and a sitting room attached to it. Then they have the usual meals and supervision, all that good stuff. She's in their memory care unit. I've only had limited exposure to the staff, so far, but they have been quite helpful. They're quite accommodating too. The facility seems to be well-kept. They have exercise classes, dances, and all sorts of dominoes games. Not only do they have the memory unit, but if something happens, they also have a full nursing facility.

St. Martin's In the Pines was very, very nice. The staff was extremely nice and welcoming. We just visited there, and they gave us a packet. We had a friend of ours that lived there. They showed us her apartment. It was super nice. All the amenities are within the building, and Mother would have never had to get out of the building. She has elevator access or she could use the stairs, but they prefer that most of them use the elevator to prevent falling. They have activities. They have independent assisted, and nursing home care. They have a studio apartment. We had a friend that was living there, so we went in and looked at the space. However, my mom preferred a 1-bedroom. She was going from my 3-bedroom house into a studio and it bothered her a little bit. She saw how much room that this friend of ours had and it was 490 square feet. The staff was great. The person that lived there has been there for quite some time, and she told us how amazing the staff was, and she wouldn't tell us that if they were not so.

My mom is at the skilled nursing area of St. Martin's In the Pines. I like that it is a cottage type setting with only ten residents per floor. All the meals are cooked there, and they've got a large gathering room with reclining chairs, a fireplace, a huge kitchen, a dining room, and screened-in porch. It's like living in a home instead of being in a traditional nursing home. Thus far, the staff has been very caring. Their ratio is five patients to one care provider, plus they have an RN 24 hours a day, and so far, the care has been good. They've only been open to visitors for ten days now because of COVID, which is how most of the places are, and as far as cost, their price is in line with everybody else.

This a great place, like a big and friendly home. Residents have private rooms with big bathrooms, furniture, a beautiful common area with a fireplace, big tv, recliners, and dining room. It looks cozy. No bad smells at all! Very clean. Nursing station is right here, so a nurse can see residents very well. Also from a common room, you can enter a big screen porch with a beautiful view of the forest and a lake. There are a lot of different activities for residents almost for every day-music, meditation, games, exercises. Staffs are friendly and professional. Best place in Birmingham!

Horrible place, nursing care is terrible, not enough staff to care for patients, NEVER put your loved one there. Beyond terrible experience.

We chose St. Martin's in The Pines because they seemed responsive, and the price was good. It has a caring and good environment, and the residents seemed happy. I tried the food when I was there, and it was good. They had a nice big common area and do some daily entertainment activities and get-togethers for everybody.

I was there visiting and was truly amazed at what I saw. Caring people, clean community and great food. It was really a great experience and changed my perception of a nursing home.

St. Martin is a much older facility, but it's very well cared for. I have three friends that live there. They have Bingo, Bridge, and jigsaw puzzles. They take trips to the stores. The rooms are very nice, and they put new carpeting, and paint the walls before anyone moves in. I've eaten there many times, and the food is very nice.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was a resident of St Martin's Rehab for a few weeks just recently. The staff was kind, caring, and had my needs met very professionally. I especially loved the talking, visiting with the staff. I had a feeling of belonging while under your care. God bless you all. You are a great asset to St Martin's.

I visited this facility

My father-in-law went to St. Martin’s for rehab for 60 days. He was in a simple, fine, double room. The food was very good. He fell a couple of times there. I would go by and shave him and take him out for fresh air. I had to meet with the directors of medical care, nursing, and physical therapy within a week of him being there just to get his promised care.

St. Martin’s-in-the-Pines provides everything for mom, like medical care, food, bathing, and has a doctor and nurses on-staff. I think it’s real good care, and we are very pleased. I like the setup of the cottages, which are more like homes. They have a great area with the kitchen open, and you can see every bedroom from that area. There’s 10 bedrooms per floor. They all can come out into the main living area and eat together in the dining area where they cook the meals.

I visited this facility

St. Martins in the Pines was nice but not as top notch as the other facility I visited. They offer little cottages not necessarily all in one building. It was clean, and the rooms seemed to be well maintained, but I don’t think the rooms were bigger than my room now.

St. Martin’s-in-the-Pines’ was good, the rooms were very nice, and the staff that we met was very nice as well. The apartments were two bedrooms, and they had a balcony -- very nice. We were happy with that place as well.

We had my mom at St. Martin’s. The room has a kitchenette, and the staff is excellent. She is actually in an independent living room, and we have someone that goes in and help with her. There is an emergency call in the room that alerts the front desk. There’s an RN 24hrs in the facility, and they also had their own geriatric specialist who comes to the facility twice a month. They have their own pharmacy on the campus. The people were friendly and nice.

We chose St. Martin's In the Pines for my mother because of their activities and the price. The room is fine. It is a brand new room; they have just remodeled it. I think their dining area is bright. They have a lot of different games. They have different entertainers come in and perform. They go to shopping sprees like the Wal-Mart.

My father in law is a resident in the Alzthemiers unit there. He is very well taken care of there. They always call me when they have to change his meds or if anything changes. I have been very pleased with the facilities as well as the staff. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

The first thing you notice with any facility is the smell, especially an assisted living facility. St. Martin's in the Pines was just warm and did not give me the essence of an assisted living facility. The staff was on target, professional and new their clients. The front entrance was very well maintained and well with inside. I did not get the feeling that I was visiting a hospital. I felt that I was visiting a well kept home with just many great centurians, which she was almost. There is always this feeling of not wanting to be at one, but this is one that I would.

St Martins has the newest nursing home in town. Their model is so different than most you see, The call it The Cottages, they ahve 2 three story buildings and each floor is a house for 10 residents. The food is even cooked there for the 10 seniors, they dont use those ugly hospital trays. This is the way nursing home care should be!

I visited this facility

First, the facilities are very attractive, both inside and out. The apartments are generously sized and intelligently planned, with great amenities, including balconies and patios. Common areas are inviting, clean and have interesting attractions, such as the finch exhibits. The dining room was more like a fine restaurant but inviting and friendly at the same time. What distinguishes this facility, at least to my way of thinking, are the grounds and the staff. This is the only place of several I went with my mother that explained the details so completely and gave helpful general advice. The grounds are quiet and have a private feel although the facility is in a conveniently located near retail and entertainment. What really got my attention - the raised bed gardens! Residents may have their own "garden" for roses, flowers or vegetables. The heavy lifting is done by staff. It's a great place for residents to interact, be active and enjoy the outdoors. Since Mom and I both find gardening highly therapeutic, we felt this was a most important asset.

Friend or relative of resident

When it comes to St.Martin's of the pines I wish I could rate it 0 stars. My uncle had resided there for 3 months while battling lung cancer. I do have to say it looked nice, but that nice look covers up there poor service. When it comes to the nurses I dont know if they forged their nursing certificates or what. It seemed like theyjust didnt care at all. The young nurses were more interested in chatting then helping people. My uncle was in bed rest, and he was having trouble breathin we had pushed the nurse button and for 35 minutes nobody came. When we were searching for nurses nobody knew who the nurse was, and nobody helped. We were panicked our family member was sitting there turning blue and the other nurses nor us could figure out who was suppose to be there to help. If nobody else can see a problem with this they must be heartless. When we finally did find the nurse they acted as if there was nothing wrong with the fact that it took close to an hour for somebody to access the problem. Then the other nurses found our situation to be funny. All I have to say is I traveled to see my uncle from Indiana to Alabama, and I almost went to jail because of this incident. I hope that when I get older my kids will decide to do something else then put me in a place like that. Soon after my uncle had passed away, but it is a shame that he had to suffer in a place like that.
