I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in Carnegie Village Senior Living Community. She stayed in the same community that she was in. She just moved to a different location. There are several wings to the building, and it was an upstairs unit and it was a long way from the dining room, so we moved her to a smaller unit, on the first floor, close to the dining room. It's a nice community. They have independent living and assisted living. They have a separate building where they have rehab. They also have a dementia unit. They have all the different levels of care in one location. The staff is very good. The first apartment that she had was quite large and was a one-bedroom. It had a full kitchen, bathroom, washer and dryer, and living room, larger than what she needed, so I moved her into what was considered to be a large studio apartment. It does have a full kitchen. It has a full-size refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, and a washer and dryer in her own unit. They have different floor plans. They have studios, one bedrooms, two bedrooms, one bedroom with a den, and two bedrooms with a den. There's quite a selection of rooms. They have ongoing activities of different levels. They have entertainment once a week. They have shuttle services to take you to the stores on certain days. They have physical therapy, a library, and an outside garden area for people that want to do that. They have a fair amount of amenities. The staff is very responsive to any of our needs. They have a dining room. They serve three meals a day, seven days a week, and you can do it all-inclusive or you can pay individually whenever you use it.

What I liked the best about Carnegie Village Senior Living Community was the fact that they're an inclusive facility. They have independent living, assisted living, rehab, and memory all in one place. I liked the fact that the rooms, the apartments, and the assisted living are the same as that in independent living so when that transition happens, the residents can transition easier without having to downsize to get into an assisted living apartment. The lady that gave the tour was great. She was helpful and you could tell that she was very knowledgeable and had been doing it a long time. I was very impressed with her presentation. The facility was a nice, good campus. It's pretty large and spread out, but I didn't feel as though I was kind of cramped. I liked the fact that it was more in a rural setting instead of a big city. I saw residents doing some puzzles and some staff interacting with the residents. They have lots of activities there.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom has moved into Carnegie Village Senior Living Community. The reason we chose that was they have the nicest apartments of the facilities in our area, and it was within her price range. She's only been able to stay there for the last four nights because we didn't have her toilet handles, so we had to wait until September 3rd for her to stay there. Then it was a holiday weekend, so things were a lot different until Tuesday. The nurses and care providers come in throughout the day and see if she needs anything and see if she can go down for her meal, and if not, then they'll bring it up to her. The residents are very friendly, and inviting and reach out to her to try to draw her into the community, so we are pleased. There's only one thing that we have been a little curious and concerned about is that my mom has had no orientation to the facility. No one has officially come and spoken with her about living there and giving her a tour or anything like that. We moved her in with no supervision or anybody. There was a lady who came and introduced herself to my mom, but she is the one that we worked with to get her in there. The nursing staff were curious because none of her records were showing up in the system. That's our one concern, that she wasn't entered into the system, and we haven't heard from anyone officially. Even the physical therapist said, 'Have you had the orientation and tour about physical therapy and all that?' But, she hasn't had anything. It was a holiday weekend, so we wanted to give them grace for that, but it might be different by today. We were kind of surprised that no one was there to give her an orientation or a tour of the place and to advise us of some of the policies that we didn't find in the record. We know there is a beauty shop and there is the dining hall because you walk right into the dining hall. My brother and his wife saw the vegetable garden, and I personally saw the inner courtyard garden when I did the tour. It's over in the rehab center though, so I'm not sure that it's close enough for my mom to go over there and enjoy that because it's a little bit of a distance. However, as for the staff, we have been very pleased. They're very friendly and accommodating. They've been really good. My mom has had a few of the meals. She hasn't been able to eat a lot of them because she got diarrhea pretty soon, which we expected with all the changes and everything. But she is very pleased with the food. The wing that she's in is under construction now, so it's in progress, but I think it's going to be very nice. They have a couple of activities a day, and they are fairly well attended from what we've seen. My mom hasn't been able to participate in them yet, but I think she's looking forward to them. It was the most reasonably priced with the most to offer overall and the nicest apartment. I feel like it's pretty good and pretty reasonable.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law moved into Carnegie Village Senior Living Community. One of the things we like the most is that her apartment is very up-to-date, very spacious, and even though she doesn't cook, or cook much, it still has a full kitchen. So, it really makes it feel more like a home. It's very upkept, very clean. They are in the process of updating all of the outer areas of the assisted living. Right now it's a little dated, but they were going to start construction soon. The independent living is completely up-to-date, very beautiful, and very attractive. I'm hoping that the assisted living will look that good when they finish with it too. They have been very responsive to any concerns that we have had. I'm there a lot with my mother-in-law, and they have come in to explain to her -- for example, she was going to have physical therapy, and she had not met the therapist, but the woman stopped in earlier in the day just to introduce herself and explain to her that she would be coming by later to do the physical therapy. I just thought that was just a nice touch. They didn't just show up and say, "Hey, we're doing physical therapy." I just thought they did a great job. They do have a beauty salon right there at the entrance to the assisted living. The problem is my mother-in-law is not really willing to do a lot of things. I do know that they post activities every week. They post them in the elevator, they post them in the hallways, they send out fliers to all the residents. I've even been there when a staff member came by just to let my mother-in-law know that bingo was getting ready to take place, and if she'd like to come down. They've just done a great job of trying to encourage her to participate.

Provider Response

I visited this facility

I liked everything about Carnegie Village Senior Living Community. It was bright, well lit, very modern, and very clean looking. The people seemed happy. It was a very nice place. I wouldn't mind living there. They had all kinds of things going on, but I'm not interested in those. They had nice big halls for you to walk. They had a hair salon, a library, and tables for you to play cards, and that sort of thing. They also had a little bistro that would be nice where you could go and get a drink, or something of that sort. The apartments were very, very nice and very big, which I was quite impressed with. My only problem is they're not in Lee's Summit. I was very impressed with the rooms. They were nice, big, light, and airy. They had nice, large bathrooms, and large kitchens. It was a very impressive place. You had to buy your meals there. They were not included in the monthly rent. They have buses to take you to places.

The staff at this facility do not wear masks. Current vaccine rate in this county is less than 50%. Nice furnishings do not replace respect and care for residents & families who live in and visit the facility. It’s terrifying and management never responds.

Provider Response

We continue to follow CMS and CDC guidance which requires all of our staff to wear masks while in our community. We are sorry to hear that you observed an instance(s) where that did not occur. Our residents' safety is our utmost priority and concern. We have immediately taken additional steps to assure that all staff remain in compliance at all times. Thank you for letting us know and allowing us to improve our services.

Carnegie Village Senior Living Community is a smaller environment. I toured the assisted living, and we saw a studio apartment that was going to be redone and would be the apartment that my mom would rent. We saw the dining rooms on the third floor as well as the first floor. It was clean and the person who took us around, Markey, was very, very nice.

We went to Carnegie Village Senior Living Community. I think the staff was very friendly, the facilities were clean, and the price seemed to be a little better than the others. The residents we met seemed to be fine. I know they have a gardening section that is available for the residents to tend, and that's a plus, and they have other activities that they do with their tenants.

I visited this facility

I toured Carnegie Village. It was like an apartment complex. The person who assisted me was very positive. They were informative and nice. They introduced my mother and aunt to people as we went by. They have a library, and they have two restaurants inside. There's a deli and a regular sit-down restaurant that people can use. They serve free continental breakfast. They have shuttle services that will take people to the grocery store every week and to regular shopping. Once a week they have an activity where they can go to a movie, go down to casinos, or wherever the people sign up to go. They have lots of games, a walking club, a quilting area, and sewing machines. We saw the 1-bedroom, the 2-bedroom, and the penthouse, which is like a 3-bedroom with larger living quarters. They were very nice, well-carpeted, very clean, and a good size for any bedrooms. Even the studio was good.

Carnegie Village has all the different activities and events for the residents to do. The people were really great. The apartments are very nice, with lots of room, they are very clean, and the residents can have just about anything they want in their rooms. They're very personable. It's a great location and it's all very well-kept. The staff member was very informative, friendly, and seemed very caring. The place was very clean.

We visited Carnegie Village. The independent living was good, but I didn't care for the assisted living. The independent living was lovely and very nice and the people that lived there seemed very happy. Some residents had dogs, which was awesome, but the assisted living did not seem as well-kept and the staff didn't seem as engaged. I was disappointed. They have several amenities like a salon, and some social areas for guests (like if your family were going to come visit). They also have activities and there's even an activities director that promotes things residents can do throughout the week.

Carnegie Village does a good job, does good service, and is very friendly, and the staff is exceptional. My parents' apartment is very clean, well-kept up, had a great kitchen area, and before they moved in, they had brand new carpet and was repainted. It's a nice and good place. They're not perfect, like a Taj Mahal place, but there's always room for improvement.

Carnegie Village Senior Living Community would probably be where we'll put our parents. The place was very good, nice, and clean. We had a very good tour. The people seemed like they were well taken care of and looked happy. They had three different dining areas and the food looked appealing for just about any type of person. They had bingo nights, outings and day tours, shopping once a week, and dances every now and then. They had a library and a TV in their room if they want.

We had a full tour of Carnegie Village. It’s very nice. They seemed to take good care of their residents. The dining room area was very nice, not brand new, but it looked good. They were expanding garages and parking areas when we were visiting because they had a lot of people, I guess, that still drive in that area, which is what we were looking for. However, we’re not sure if we’re going to move to that area, but if we move there, that’s probably where we would go.

We chose Carnegie Village for my friend. It is wonderful! The staff is the best. Everybody that we've met there is friendly. They've gone out of their way to make her feel comfortable and get things set up for her. It has a bright feeling. She has been invited by the residents to join activities, of which there's always something going on. Every night they have games or activities of some sort. They have a full dining room in the evening, and the food is wonderful with specials for the residents.

Carnegie Village Senior Living Community was beautiful. Everybody was very friendly and very helpful, but it was way overpriced. The apartments were awesome. They were very clean. I really liked the fact that there were washers and dryers within each apartment in the independent living side. They were very spacious. They had activities like dancing, card playing, bingo, and day trips.

I spent one day at Carnegie Village, and I was impressed by the facility and the amenities. It was clean and well-organized. They have several rooms, and I settled for a two bedroom unit. Their rooms are sizable and comparable to a regular home or apartment. All the staff I encountered were friendly. I will be moving there this July. They have three meals a day plus snacks throughout the day.

It looked very nice. The staff was very pleasant, and the people that live there seemed to be very happy. They were very helpful. The rooms were fine. They have a bus that takes the people places. They have a car service that take you to the doctors if you need it. It looked very secure. My main problem was the expense. I would recommend Carnegie Village if they can afford it, and I do have an acquaintance that lives there.

We're moving into the Carnegie Village on the 25th. We liked it. The rooms were very nice. We had lunch there, and it was very good. The dining area was more like a restaurant. They had cards and canasta, and they have an exercise room. There is a big pool table and a couple of men were playing.

Carnegie Village is beautiful and very nice. She is living in a studio apartment, and it is excellent. She has a small kitchen, a washer and dryer. It is a nice little place. Now this is all independent living, but the reason we chose it is because they have a nursing staff on duty. They take them out to theaters or different functions. I think they can take her to the doctor if she needs it. We are right here, so we just take her. They take her to anything that is coming up that she likes to go to. They have a big library. They have birthday party once a month for whoever's birthday is that month. It's been excellent, and I've been very happy with it. We went to a few other facilities, but once we found this, it's like we stopped looking.

They have a great facility at Carnegie Village. The apartments were big enough for two people, and I think their advantage is they have assisted living connected to independent living. So you could stay there longer and if you weren't as independent, you could just move on to assisted living as you needed to. And, their executive director is excellent. I liked the size of the apartments and the friendly employees that I met. I think they were very caring people and were very supportive of the people coming in.

I chose Carnegie Village for my mom, and she absolutely loves it. The staff there is super wonderful. The lady who is the general manager is wonderful. I live in another state, and every time I call her, she is accessible and immediately responds to me. My mother enjoys the dining room a lot. She goes to the dining room to eat most nights. She feels like she has excellent care. What she really loves, too, is that there is security. The people are not wandering in and out day and night. It is comfortable, and it is beautifully decorated. It is also right in the town where she has lived for the last 40 years. So that's where her church and all of her friends are located. They provide transportation for her doctor's appointments. They have a van that goes to the grocery store every week.

Mom is now at Carnegie Village. This is an excellent facility. They are conveniently close by, but mostly their nursing care is excellent. Everything is very wonderful and new. They put in new carpeting and paint before she went into her room. They have activities, and my mom just went on one of their field trips.

My husband and I are all set to go to Carnegie Village. Aside from the fact that we don't have to buy our meals when we're there, I also like that there is an assisted living and a nursing home facility attach to this place. My mother is 95 and so we can have her with us. Plus, should we need some respite from her, we could just place her in their respite care wing right down the hall. Regarding accommodation, we will have a spacious two-bedroom apartment, which is on the first floor. We have a bay window there. We don't have a patio-type of thing but since we are right next to the outside door, that's not a big issue for us. We have a small dog, so we are able to take her out. During our visit, we actually went into a little cafe that they have there and it was very good. We had lunch and the food was good as well.

Carnegie Villages have beautiful rooms and wonderful staff. It was truly a village. Everything you need is right there. We went over there several times and it was always lovely. The staff was incredibly generous with time and they were very friendly and outgoing. The rooms were spacious and lovely. Lots of sitting areas and different gathering areas. I would recommend this facility. My dad didn't end up moving there because it was expensive.

We placed my mother-in-law in Carnegie Village several years ago. This facility stood above the others in a variety of ways. The apartments were less institutationalized than most facilities. She has a full kitchen: range, microwave, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, and lots of kitchen storage. The dining facilities are very pleasant, and offer residents options regarding when they eat, and what they eat. There is a formal dining room, and "retro" diner for lunch. The rates at the facility are comparable to other homes in the area. There is a huge plantation style veranda on the back of the main building overlooking the city park. This is a place I could live when the time comes.

My mother lived at Carnegie Village for about 17 months, until a couple of weeks before her death. She previously lived at another facility, which was located in my home town, for about 7 years. The staff consistently dealt with her admittedly difficult personality with patience, encouragement, and good cheer. Transportation was available to doctor appointments and grocery stores, but my mother was confined to a scooter, so a van with a lift would have worked better. The meal plan, in which all meals were purchased, worked well for my mother. Facilities were kept clean, and the housekeeping staff was very helpful and friendly. The kitchen staff was also helpful and meals were good (I ate there several times). The physical plant was attractive; the facility backs up to a public park with many trees and is set well back from the busy street in front. Repairs were always accomplished promptly, and the staff willingly did extra chores for my mother, who had trouble remembering how to work her TV remote, etc. Carnegie was a good experience for my mother.
