I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom stayed at Brookdale Round Rock. They were extremely supportive of my mother. My mom loved the food there. She was very happy there. She loved the activities. The staff was incredibly kind to her. She really did thrive there. Their physical therapy guy, Jack, was amazing. He got her out of her wheelchair. The day before she died, she was walking, which was kind of a miscue for us. We thought she was much better than she was, but what a miracle that she was practically leaping in and out of the car that day. As far as the facility, they were amazing. They were really caring people. It was just that she was very sick. They were very kind to us. They were very friendly and consoling. It was very homey. She loved the activities, and she was able to participate. We never regretted going there. My mom didn't have a lot of money, but considering that she was only there for a little bit, it was a perfect placement for her.

This used to be an excellent facility until recently. A new director has been assigned. She is never out in the facility with the residents or with the staff. Staff that has been there for years have quit. Most treated poorly. Communication is terrible, unanswered emails, phone calls. Wait times for resident calls are unacceptable.

I visited this facility

I went to see Brookdale Round Rock. I saw, mainly, the assisted living but they also showed their memory care. The tour was good and the people that assisted me were very nice and very informative. The facilities I saw were nice too. The room that I saw was nice and it was a studio. The place is two stories and, for this facility, the dining room was on the second floor so my dad would have to take the elevator up. I don't like that part of it. I just feel like my dad needs to be in a place where he doesn't have to go up and down. The prices there are a little bit more expensive than some of the others. I just don't think it's for him. There is a place where they can go watch some movies. There's also a place where they have someone playing the piano, a library, and a game room.

The person who gave the tour of Brookdale Round Rock was very, very good, very knowledgeable, and very accommodating, taking us around to the several apartments that they had available to look at. However, we found the place a little bit smaller than what we were expecting. They showed us the assisted living and memory care. We didn't sample a meal, but they showed us a menu.

My dad and I didn't have a good feeling about Brookdale Round Rock. Maybe because it's all assisted living, and we were wanting to have an independent living, so he wasn't inclined to pay for it. The staff was nice though, and the living atmosphere was fine. I think we saw all of their amenities, and they're very nice too.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I chose Brookdale Round Rock because of the location, the facilities, and the price. It's a good place. My room is nice and fair sized. It has a bedroom, bath, and a small kitchenette. I don't care much for the food. They have a lot of activities like games, bingo, and meeting groups. There's always some group meeting about something. I don't attend because I have to be in quarantine because of the virus. They have a barber shop and a salon. The facility is very nice, very pleasant, very attractive, and very clean constantly. They're very accommodating. They came to my house, and they brought me lunch. They reached out more than anybody on a very personal level. Of all the places that I've checked, this was the best value.

Brookdale Round Rock was really nice. There was a porch area where the residents can go. It felt really spacious and very nicely decorated. One of the things we didn't really like about the place was it's two floors and huge. I could see my mom getting lost very easily. The staff was great and very nice. The rooms were very cramped, which I didn't really like. It did have a little kitchenette area but I just didn't like the layout. It seemed darker and dreary looking. The place seemed nicer and newer but it wasn't for my mom. They had a lot of activities set up. The staff all seemed great.

I really liked Brookdale Round Rock. It is a little more expensive, but they have a computerized system that helps teach and stimulate their minds. The place is very nice. The staff and facilities are good. What's good about it is that they only take in so many people. The quality of care is there. The people that live there usually stay there until their demise because the people are so nice and so kind. It is an awesome place.

I visited this facility

I visited Brookdale, looking to downsize from a home to something smaller. Tour folks were very accommodating and helpful. However, I give it a 3-star for the following: The hallways seemed rather cluttered and cramped--somewhat like a hotel at 10 am with the maids all over. The apartments I visited were a turn-off. Only ONE (the so-called Penthouse Suite) had a full kitchen. The others had a small fridge, a small microwave, a sink, but NO STOVE. Come on! In effect, forcing you to eat in the dining room whether you'd like to or not. Suppose you arrive home at 11 pm and would like a small meal--you're stuck with the microwave or nothing. Well, the m-wave might do, depending on what you're eating, but do you get my point? Plus Brookdale was significantly more expensive than another much better facility I saw.

My mother-in-law is in Brookdale Round Rock. We're very pleased with the staff and with the facilities, and she is very happy there. The rooms are spacious and well kept, and the facilities are modern. They offer exercises, crafts, trips for lunches, shopping trips, musical, entertainment, church services, Bible studies, bingo, and card games. It's reasonably priced.

Brookdale Round Rock was very nice. The stff was very friendly, helpful, really pleasant, and showed me everything. Actually it was one of the places that I did take my mother to go see. The only thing my mother didn’t like was that she had to go to far to get to the elevator, and she can’t walk well. The staff was great. Happy hour was going on, and they were having donuts and offered us some. All of the people looked like they were having a great time, and there were quite a few of them. They had a whole bunch of other activities planned, which is very apparent and great that they have those readily available. They showed us different rooms that were open and of a nice size.

Having eaten with my mom the food is good. The amount is fine. Often the menu doesn't reflect what is available. after serving a few people they are often out of items and the majority are given a different option. Service is extremely slow if I had gone to a restaurant I would have walked out. The residents don't have that option. As expected the yearly price raise was announced. Happy holidays. In the past it had been 3 percent this year it is 5.5 percent. Must have realized after buying out Emeritus they leave few options, and/or they take advantage of the holidays when people come home, realize mom and dad should not be living on their own and desperately seek a place that is safe for them.

Our experience with Horizon Bay is very good. My father-in-law's cousin is not thrilled with the food, but then I haven't found many old people that are thrilled with any food unless they're paying $10,000 a month for their home and their gourmet chef. Nevertheless, my father-in-law's cousin is very happy with the people that are there. They have been very friendly and very helpful. They provide three meals a day. Her room is very nice and clean. The staff makes sure that she is checked on. She wears one of those necklaces, and they make sure that each day she eats all of her meals. They're really good about knowing first names and knowing a lot about them, making sure all of the health information is up-to-date and accurate for their health safety. They also have a call button in the bathroom.

At Horizon Bay Round Rock, the atmosphere was wonderful, but it had constrictions too because they didn't offer all the services that my father needed. However, this community was the best one because it was the most modern and it was the newest. It was really nice. I would recommend them to others.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Horizon Bay is a memory care, and it was very difficult for my mother to make friends there because they didn’t remember you from one day to the next. Their staff does not take care for the residents and do not seem to be their primary concern. They take advantage of the fact that they don’t know what you would do, and they don’t care for the residents like they should. They don’t follow through on what they say they’re going to do. Mom has been there a little over three years. The food is a very bad issue with them. They have had many changes in the last three years, many different cooks. They normally have a very short staff as far as servers. I went there yesterday and was with my mom all day there yesterday because she was actually afraid to be there by herself that they wouldn’t care for the medications that she needed while she was sick yesterday. I went into the dining room in the evening to have dinner, which was a grilled cheese sandwich; it took an hour and a half to get that. The rooms and apartments: the kitchens are little tiny kitchenettes, and there is no storage in this place. It’s not like living in an apartment; it was more like living in a hospital type situation. When I originally put her there, they had wallpaper on the walls, and things looked a lot nicer. Right after she moved into there, they were bought by another company, and they redecorated everything and made it look more hospitalish as oppose to more homish. For their social recreations, they do have bingo, tours, and happy hours which the orders and stuff that they serve them are usually pretty bad. They need to take a hard look at what they are doing with their residents there; they are not putting them first. They have a brand new director that’s just started, so I don’t know if he is going to make a positive difference or not, but the last one did not.

I chose to visit Horizon Bay because of geographical proximity to where I am. It is a caring community with a home-like atmosphere. I thought the staff was very respectful with the residents there. They said they were guests in the resident's home. I just like the attitude of the staff towards them. The rooms were nicely done. With the couple of rooms, it acted kind of like a neighborhood. There were eight rooms around the common area, and I liked that arrangement. The common dining area is attractive and nice. They have a whole variety of activities. I looked at their calendar, and there was shopping trips to Wal-Mart and to wherever people wanted to go. They have just a variety of events that the residents planned. The attitude of the staff and their commitment to serving the residents there stood out to me.

The dining area was set up very nicely with cloth tablecloth and napkins. The staff was very friendly. They had full-time nurses on the staff. They seemed to be doing pretty well.

I visited Horizon Bay, and they were very friendly. They showed everything. They answered all my questions. It was one of the smaller places that I had visited, and it was a very homey place, and it was really nice all around. The rooms were larger than what I had expected, and the food was really good. They had a whole calendar full of activities that ranged from cards to movies, and they even had a few excursions, which were very neat.

Horizon Bay Round Rock is really nice. We haven't had a whole lot of problems. I think they take very good care of my mother. Her apartment is really nice, a good size, and bigger than usual. I think it's a little pricey, but I think it's probably in the normal range for that area. The attitude of the staff is great. They're very nice. They have people who cook. But in my opinion, people who are old need to have more home-cooked food, and they need to have meatloaf and normal hometown food. To me, sometimes their food is not really desirable. My mother is very picky, and she's a country woman. A lot of the people gripe about the food. They remodeled, and it's very pretty and very welcoming. The back porch is very nice. It has chairs like a normal home back porch. They have some vegetables back there that people have grown. It's really homey. They go to Walmart and HB, and then they go to different little outings and they have fitness, movies, church, different choirs, different programs, and on Fridays they have happy hour where you can have alcohol. They serve alcohol and regular drinks and snacks. My mother didn't want to go anywhere else because it was right by my two brothers who live down the street. It looks like a big huge house, so she felt comfortable right away when she went in. She liked it and so she didn't want to go look anywhere else. She's younger than most. A lot of people are way older than her. I think they could improve on the food.

Horizon Bay was a beautiful, small facility. It's a very bright, well-lit, and nicely laid out facility. But the rooms were very small. And that's my drawback for going there. Also, my mother has dementia. When she needs to go to memory care, that facility was not as big as some of the others. What we're hoping is that we'll be able to place my parents both together in the same building at some point. The staff seem great. Everyone has been really very positive, upbeat, and helpful. It was beautiful.

Horizon Bay was clean and recently renovated. The staff is super friendly. My dad loves the dining facility and the food is fantastic. He is treated super well. He just needs a safe place to live where he is well fed and taken care of. The admissions director was absolutely the best and she was one of the main reasons we chose that facility.

Horizon Bay was beautiful. We loved it. It was very clean, upgraded, their rooms are gorgeous and it doesn't look like an assisted living at all. The staff was excellent and very warm. The person who made the presentation for us, she was excellent and she even called us up all the time to know if we have decided. If mom and dad could not do things on their own, we would consider that place.

Horizon Bay is a conveniently located assisted living facility in the Austin area which we visited for our aunt. It is pet-friendly - which is a relief, because she really loves her kitty. The grounds outside were lovely - and the interior wrap around porch was really pleasant to see and sit in. There is plenty of light in the whole facility, which is an added bonus for us. The library is large and stocked well, with plenty of places to sit and enjoy a book -- lots of comfortable chairs. The large living room had a beautiful fireplace with a lot of seating, as well. The dining options are designed as a restaurant-style setting with plenty of fresh foods with lots of nutritional choices. They also offer a full soup and salad bar each day -- which is something our aunt would really enjoy. They offer many programs and services designed to enhance the lives of all of the seniors - with some we haven't seen before. For example, the Matter of Balance, creative writing and Mind Aerobics. They really go out of their way to provide the most stimulating activities possible. They take the residents on many exciting excursions in and around the community. The staff interaction we saw told us how well the residents are really cared for here. The convenient salon is something else that our aunt would really enjoy. The apartments were nicely decorated and all have plenty of windows and natural bright lighting - with neighborhood views. This is a really beautiful community with caring staff -- a place where any senior would be happy to call home.
