From the Provider

Hospice services are available through Family Centered Hospice should individuals need this level of care. Hospice is a special concept of care for patients with a life-limiting illness that strives to improve residents’ quality of life and allows them to live their final days with hope and dignity, surrounded by their loved ones.

Hospice services include:

  • Routine part-time care provided by the hospice team and coordinated with the resident, their physician and family members
  • Specialized medical equipment, supplies, drugs and tests necessary to promote comfort
  • Counseling, spiritual and bereavement support
  • Acute inpatient care if necessary to relieve pain or other symptoms
  • Respite care for family relief
  • Continuous 24-hour care if necessary for symptoms such as acute pain or agitation

Hospice is not about giving up hope. With the assistance of hospice, hope is refocused from an emphasis on extending a person’s life to a focus on a person’s comfort, dignity and independence.

The specialized care offered by hospice extends to an individual’s family and loved ones. Trained staff is available to assist with the emotional, social and spiritual aspects of illness. Hospice offers individualized bereavement and counseling services before and after a person’s death.

The hospice team includes a hospice medical director, physical, occupational and speech therapy staff, medical social workers, clergy and other counselors, certified nursing assistants, skilled nursing staff and many others who work together with residents and their family members to provide end-of-life care in an environment of hope, compassion, comfort and dignity.

I visited this facility

Upon visiting this residential location, the order, cleanliness, and general friendliness of the staff in the building were immediately apparent. The residents seem very happy and busy. The activities that are provided seem engaging and beyond what I've seen at other assisted living facilities. Religious opportunities are provided and encouraged along with a great sense of community. The location for the facility is in the nicer part of this suburb of Chicago and located near a hospital, but also near plenty of activities. The opportunities for interaction with family in the area is also great, since access to the rest of Chicagoland is easy. Overall, there is a sense of serenity and peace, but not in a foreboding sense as I've encountered elsewhere. Rather, in a way that is conducive to enjoying a stress-free life. Though I visited a friend's grandparents, the interactions that I had with the staff were very positive and the general happiness on the grounds is very high.

I visited this facility

Alden Gardens of Waterford, in Aurora, Illinois is an assisted living community that I would recommend. There are several areas in the facility that offer areas to relax or visit. There is a computer room, activity room, living areas and a beautiful patio overlooking a pond. The rooms are wonderful and have 2 options, including a suite. I was very impressed with the resident rooms. I was also impressed with the dining room and the options offered. I loved the buffet dining with many options. The food was surprisingly good. I was also happy with the professionalism of the staff. Everyone I observed to interact with staff was treated with respect and kindness.
Overall, I would recommend Alden Gardens of Waterford Assisted Living, in Aurora, Illinois.
