What I liked the most about Maple Ridge was the people. The staff was wonderful and the residents I talked to all liked it there. So, that was a good plus. It's very clean-looking, professional, and very attractive. The lady that gave me the tour was very friendly and answered all my questions. They had a gym, a library, a good clubroom, a beauty salon, and an excellent dining room. They had everything I was looking for.

My sister will be moving into Maple Ridge. The staff was a very good tour guide. The facility was clean and well-lit. The room was inexpensive and very good, considering the other rooms in the area that we looked at. The building has a beautiful view of the mountains. Altogether appreciated that it was in Ashland, which is a lovely place. They have both studios and apartments. We chose a studio. They have many amenities and activities. They had a walking group, and that was what my sister was interested in, that she could take hikes and walks. They had libraries and hair salons. They also have an area where you can go and get a massage in private.

Wish I could give 10 Stars! I cannot praise Maple Ridge enough! The room was sparkling clean when Mom moved in, has a beautiful mountain view and big trees right outside her balcony. Maple Ridge staff is skilled, kind, and responsive to Mom's needs and the needs of our family. The staff nurse Cyndy makes herself available to us for all manner of nuanced Care Plan tinkering to keep Mom at her best and living her fullest. The med techs are top notch, special kudos to Ta'sheena, Michael and the gang. Her many medical conditions are monitored and managed with incredible care. The Care Partners also treat Mom with dignity, warmth and patience. The administrative staff is amazing. Addy, Emily and Rochelle are absolutely in their perfect careers, serving the community and working together with warmth and ease. I love visiting Mom at Maple Ridge. I am there almost every day, and I truly feel that Mom are lucky to be there. Thank you!

Maple Ridge Ashland is a really great facility. I would have gone there if I really needed to go in that direction; it was my family who said it was too far away. I knew the person who gave me the tour so she did a great job. Because of COVID, they don't allow me to try the food. Their activities are very limited, but they do give you information of what it would be like if we weren't battling COVID. The room I saw there is comparable to where I am. It's adequate space for what you're putting out for it. My first impression of the place is that it's one that draws you in, at least it did for me.

Provider Response

Dear Carol, thank you for taking the time to rate and review Maple Ridge Senior Living. We appreciate your feedback to let our team know how we are doing. My mother has been a resident of Maple Ridge. On the outside it's a nicely kept facility. She has a studio. I'm very pleased with the staff, they're very attentive, very caring people. She's very pleased with the activities they have there, they have weekly music programs that she goes to, they walk them around, and they do some kind of dress-up where they walk around, and go to different residents' rooms and interact. They have a little courtyard area around the back.

When my mother moved here a couple of years ago she was in independent living. I would never have recommended it to others but there was a massive change in staff about a year and a half ago. Since that time everything has changed. My mother is now in Assisted Living. This has greatly improved her health since her medications are administered regularly. The nursing staff is caring and attentive to her needs. The meals are well prepared. The housekeeping staff are friendly and cheerful. The staff have a positive attitude of liking what they do with the goal of serving the residents with sincere care.

Provider Response

Dear Lunette, thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to write this review. We are also pleased about your mothers improved health. Our team at Maple Ridge believe that if you do the right thing, the right things happen. Thanks again.

We visited Brookdale Ashland. It was pretty good. The staff was very nice, and treated us in a regal manner and made everything as nice as possible. However, the apartment unit was not suitable. The location of the apartment was not consistent with what we are able to handle. For us it's like moving from a castle to a hut, it's so small. The food was very good. It just didn't meet our needs and requirements.

Brookdale Ashland only had three or four independent living cottages, but it was clean, well kept, and well maintained. We had a meal there and they served salmon, which was quite good. It just wasn't as attractive a structure and a community, or even a location as the other place. The staff was friendly, pleasant, and answered all our questions. It had a lot of activities.

Provider Response

We regret that we were unable to meet all of your expectations. We want to thank you for your feedback and please know it will be reviewed and used to better serve our residents and their families in the future.

The main thing that we didn't like about Brookdale Ashland was that we could smell the urine from the hallway, so they obviously weren't very good with maintenance and upkeep of the place. Everything else was fine. The rooms reminded me of large hotel rooms.

Provider Response

We apologize that your tour of Brookdale Ashland did not meet all of your expectations. Please be assured our staff is continuously committed to providing the highest-quality service and care for each resident and we will share your feedback with our management team.

Brookdale was beautiful and absolutely fabulous. I would move tomorrow. It was in a wonderful setting. It works for independent and assisted living, but it would never work for my husband who has memory care issues. Someone is supposed to be at the front at all times, manned 24-hours a day, but there are times where there is so much going on, people get distracted, and someone could wander off. There had two meals a day, including breakfast, which you could have in your own room. They have laundry and housekeeping, an entertainment room, movies, a library, and art; Ashland is loaded with painters and writers, so it is natural that they would have that activity available. They had independent and some assisted, but it is geared more for the independent.

My mother lives at this facility because we made the mistake of believing what we read and were told before she moved in. The facts are; The food is terrible, not just occasionally but every single day. The activities are few and far between. Since my mother moved in there hasn't been an activities director for more than a couple of months and not consecutively. The housekeeping services are overlooked often, again it's an issue of being understaffed. I would imagine that paying employees a few cents over minimum wage does not foster loyalty or longevity. Not only are we having the contract we signed reviewed we are also looking for another place for my mother to live. In talking with serveral other family members we are not alone in that regard.

Brookdale Ashland was very nice, but they did not have kitchens in the apartments, just a bar sink and a counter about the size of a drawer. The staff was wonderful, very pleasant, very friendly, and really caring. I was really impressed by the staff. I could not ask for more. They had arts and crafts, and day trips. The dining area was lovely. I would like them to have kitchens in their apartments and air conditioning systems that weren't noisy.

The care at Brookdale is more of assisted living than what I would need at this time. It was just too confining and too much like a hospital. There were some amenities that I just don't care for. The apartments that they have were more for care than they were for independence. They didn't have real independence in this kind of living. Full kitchen and a separate bedroom, but it just was not for me.

We chose Mountain View (Emeritus at Mountain View) for my parents. I like it for the location. The staff seems friendly from the few of them I met. The rooms were freshly re-painted. I wouldn't say they're spacious though. Food is fine. The dining room, I think, is fine too. They gave us a list of their activities. When we were there, they played bridge. What they could improve on though is that they need to have probably more laundry rooms for washers and dryers throughout the building. They seem quite a distance away from some of the apartments.

It has the same problems many of the surrounding facilities carry: Short-staffing and keeping employees (they lose almost two employees per month, for the past six), inadequate cleaning supplies, poor food and meal service, slow laundry service, and trays of half-eaten food left in the hallways or laundry rooms for several hours. Like any of the rest, Emeritus at Mountain View provides with its own unique errors. For one, it hasn't been true that two Executive Directors were employed for each part of the building; they've only had one for at least the past two years. The building suffers a severe fruit fly infestation because their communal garbage cans are never properly cleaned. We watched one of the nighttime resident assistants taking them into the kitchen where the food is prepared to rinse out the mold and kitty litter and fruit fly eggs. We once overheard a med-tech say that they'd once found maggots nesting in the juice dispenser in the kitchen. When we do order juice, there's often something wispy and solid floating around in the glass. I can't begin to imagine what the kitchen must look like. If you're going to live here, do so because you are fully able to take care of yourself and provide your own food. What's nice about this facility is that you can get help in case of a fall or other injury very quickly. While this is true for (nearly) every other facility, Emeritus at Mountain View is very close to the hospital. It hardly takes any time at all for the ambulance to arrive. The staff will do the best that they can for you here. Unfortunately, the best they can do is as minimal as the rest of the building.

A place I looked at was Emeritus, and it was terrible. The physical facilities were very dated. I didn't feel it was clean. The activities were not very interesting. The meal service was absolutely horrible. I spent an hour and a half waiting for my lunch, and I learned from other people later that that was typical. That wasn't just one bad day. Their lunch, their meal service, is extremely slow. It was very discouraging. I wanted to walk out and leave, but I was too polite, and the house that they showed me was -- I thought it was back in the '50s. It was terrible. They didn't have enough parking for guests. The woman who showed me around was nice and often pleasant, but I didn't like that place at all.

Most of the staff work very hard, which is necessary because it is very minimal. There are long wait times for hygiene help, and medications are usually given late. The staff stay pleasant but aren't allowed to do anything extra for the residents. No matter how much money is paid for a relative to live there, certain things are denied, such as a peanut butter sandwich if they get snackish in the evening. Some staff are doing nursing duties but have no medical training or background. But it is not a bad place to be if your parent or grandparent doesn't have bad medical problems, as some residents do.

The staff is very informed as to the needs of the residents. The nurse, in particular, is very caring and responsive. The administrator does a good job of keeping the facility running well. I currently have 2 clients living here, and as a geriatric care manager, I would recommend it.
