Good question. We try to watch funny shows on tv, especially the old Seinfeld shows, and my husband enjoys watching The Colbert Report with our son. He seems to laugh more with him than with me. I think I have become the mom in his mind. We have always enjoyed anything to do with music, dance, etc., such as American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, and still watch them. I'm not sure he has the same appreciation as he did in the past but, at least, he is willing to sit with me and share the time. I try not to be his mother, but it's nearly impossible when I'm doing everything for him.
Caregiving can sometimes be stressful, filled with lots of reminders and instructions ("Did you remember to take your medicine?" and "It's time to take a shower.") How do you keep things light and still enjoy time with each other while still getting all needs met?
