I recently just read a blog post here on Caring.com about getting the whole family involved in saving money . One of the best tips it mentioned is a system called the multi-generational coupon mission. The concept is simple- since the caregiver generally has less time on their hands than the person they are caring for, that person is in charge of cutting out the coupons and organizing them. The member of the family who does the shopping (usually the caregiver!) then brings the organized coupons and their shopping list to the store with them.
My mother and I were using this strategy without even realizing it had a fancy name, lol ! When she was living with us she was also very helpful in writing down things on the grocery list that were about to run out - something my husband and I aren't very good at. We usually don't notice things until they are completely out which causes many time and cost consuming extra trips to the store. Now that my mom has moved out, she still cuts out coupons and sends the ones over to me that she doesn't need.
Do any of you use coupons? I'd love to hear any money-saving strategies you might have!
