What choice will be made regarding funerals?

My father insisted on being cremated - he had no need for his body to take up space in the ground, and he now has an urn in a niche in a mausoleum.

What were or are your parents' wishes? How can this be discussed beforehand?

I think that this is a topic which should have begun being discussed as soon as your Father made his choice known.   Please don't believe for a minute, that what a person states as his/her last wish -- is really their wish.  I have known friends that have opted for immediate cremaition, when the only reason was financial.  It might be they're attempt to save the family expense, and stress.    You must be absolutely certain of his motivation.   The topic should be opening discussed at a "family meeting", including DAD!

My family asked me to list 4 reasons why I preferred cremation over burial.  IT STOPPED ME COLD!  I WAS FORCED TO RE-THINK MY OWN LOGIC, OR LACK THERE OF!

Hi 1000! Thanks for your response. In my case, that was a choice he'd made and discussed for years and years - he never thought much of taking up space in ground, preferring to leave it for living people to live on.  :) But I agree - for others, it may be a point of discussion to be sure and clear of the decision.
