Hi everyone,
I have been aware of devices for a while for tracking, but the idea of it made me uncomfortable. Though I really did want to have a finding/alert system for my parents - especially my dad who has been having drops in blood that scared me, and he continues to demand to drive.
A friend of mine told me about something called nanonavi that I downloaded from facebook for free - - then I bought a small device from their site. So far it's very very helpful - I can see where my dad is through my phone when I he has the device on him. Recently I was alerted by my phone when he was out of range, and he was in fact lost becuase he was turned around. The device was on his belt, and I could then find him on my phone's map. It was amazing.
I would love to know if anyone else has experiences with devices and elders - if you've used nanonavi, or have others to suggest.
THANKS!
Wow! Nanonavi sounds pretty cool! I'll be interested to hear others' experiences. Great topic!
What a helpful device! Does he wear it on his belt willingly? I hope so. My elderly father will not cooperate with anything that would help me out in the caregiver role. Not even a "Life-Alert" button. Because of this I have often thought (fantasized!) it would be nice to install some sort of camera or monitor in his apartment so I could check in on him from time to time through my computer at home. Unfortunately I do not believe that this is legal, however.
It is neat! I would check out their site www.nanavi.com [nanavi.com] or you can go to Facebook and test it on your phone first. There looks like there is a device that is so small you can place it inside of a coat or lining somewhere - or one you could put in a car. I am not sure about the legality of the camera - they have nanny cams - are they legal?
Marcia - does your dad have a cell phone? Perhpas if you both used a phone, and you offered to wear one he might feel it was an equal partnerhips?? Just a thought - it becomes a way foy you both to be connected?
sarah
sorry folks - it's nanonavi.com !!
Sarah, the cell phone is a great idea. My first thought is that he would say no to it, but your'e right, if I proposed it to him as we would be equal partners - he might do it. (He becomes uncooperative if he thinks someone is telling him what to do.) Thanks for the suggestion! I will check into the nanny-cam legal issue, I had forgotten about those. I wish the Nanonavi would work in our situation.
Marcia
So glad that's a good idea. Being equal makes it even better.
Actually, I got the idea from nanonavi, because you can use their application from facebook to download to your phone and so the phones become devices as well (so you can have an alert system - cool) - that is how we started, first with the phones, then the device. might want to check it out - becuase it's free - the phone part, then the device was under a $100.
Have a good weekend,
Sarah
