I just came across this and thought it may be of interest. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/caringforyourparents/ [pbs.org] Check your local listings for what time the show will air. I look a look at in my area it is 9:00 pm. I'm looking forward to watching!
Around the caring.com office this morning, we also listened with interest to our local public radio station, which had two hours of coverage about caregiving. The program, produced by KQED, is called 'Forum' and their 3/31 program was all about caregiving, with a full hour on caring for someone with Alzheimer's. You can download or stream audio from KQED's site [kqed.org].
Awesome info! Thanks Kirby!
Here is a great commentary about that show which criticizes it for being full of "stereotypes, hysteria, and plain wrongheadedness glorified in the name of caring for our parents" and a "missed opportunity" to show better ways of doing it or bringing up practical issues about costs, etc. that viewers could think about ahead of time -- like geriatric care management, the stress on families of having a parent move in, etc. See:

It did make caring for a parent look relentlessly grim and gruesome...and there's a point at which it does NOT make sense to have a parent at home, and the point at which it's ripping apart your own life is it. Wonder if there are others who were really turned off by this much-ballyhooed program?
Wow! Thanks for sharing that review! Interesting!
One thing I did think it missed the mark on is caring for a more independent parent. It did portray the truly hardcore caring situations, ommitting some many many MANY people are in such as caregiving from a distance.
Wouldn't it be so great if they did a series of programs covering a larger variety of issues? Fingers crossed they get simliar feedback and consider it!
