Hello West Sac Gal!
Have you tried Zappos? [zappos.com] They have a free shipping both ways policy, they have slippers, and they have wide sizes. If you've not tried them, maybe they can help you out. :)
As the weather here on the west coast heats up, Mom's edema in her feet is getting worse. Does anyone have a good online source for extra, extra, extra wide shoes. She is currently wearing some extra wide Propet walkers with velcro straps but even these are getting difficult to get on and off. I used to buy from Footsmart but the shipping charges were killing me to return. I just buy a variety of sizes near her size, hope for the best and send what she doesn't want back. Now I buy thru Shoebuy.com and they have been great. I've returned over $600.00 in shoes in the last 2 months trying to find shoes she liked and could wear. Now I am looking for slippers. Her feet are a challenge. We are talking extra, extra, extra wide and her left foot was fused into a flat position a couple of years ago to correct some problems when her foot was severed and reattached in the 50's in a car accident . She can't bend over to tie anything so I have to go velcro or slip on all the way. Also looking for some socks that will accomodate the swelling.
Any help would be appreciated.

I"ve also heard a rec for footsmart.com. :)
Have you tried men's sizes? A men's New Balance size 11 width 6E works well for my daughter whose feet are very wide and misshapened. The sole is flexible and I think 5E comes with velcro closures. The 6E doesn't. You can find them on-line or thru specialty wide shoe shops in your area.
Also, search on-line for shoes/socks/slippers for people with diabetes. I buy wide socks from PediFix. They have a website; Amazon also carries their products.
Thanks Anonymous. I have tried mens. Little old ladies still want to look good and now that she has new glasses and can see her feet she's appalled at how BIG they look. LOL. I will look into the PediFix socks. I did discover that there are several websites for Diabetic shoes and socks and these are a blessing. Have you ever purchased anything from Mediped. Its a sock I found yesterday online and wondered if it was a good choice.

The Mediped socks are pretty good. I think they may be more expensive than the PediFix. Can't remember. My mom wants to have dainty shoes, too, even though her feet aren't. We found some Wolky velcro sandals that made her feet look smaller. I don't think they would be wide enough for your mom, by the sounds of it. Good luck

Try Buck & Buck I found them when looking for nightgowns for my Mom and bought her some slippers too. I think they're too wide! :)
You may want to try a buying a pair of Pediflex Slippers. I've had my pair for about 1 year. They're amazing . The slippers are designed ot expand to all size feet. They have plush fleece lining. Best thing about these slippers is that they have dense memory foam insoles. My pair fit me like custom made orthodics. They're priced right too The problem is, they're hard to find. I purchased mine from a mail order catalog. I just do not remember which one. Does anyone out there have any idea how to get in touch with the company?
Vintage,
I Googled Pediflex and it recommended footwearetc.com
Have you tried the following websites; I believe they are affiliated and they carry a few extra extra wide (up do 7E) and double depth and super depth shoes:

My mom has super swollen, high instep, wide feet, so she shares some of the same issues as you mentioned in your post, which I realize is a few months old. However, maybe this may serve as an option for future.
Finding shoes for swollen feet is a problem with different width fittings from 4E and 6E but I came across this site:
