'Home remedies for arthritis?' posted by Pain Free at Last @ {post.created_at.to_s(:post_time)}

After 27 years of pain with RA and trying all the meds, the chemo and Enbrel, I took a look at optimal nutrition for all the cells of the body. I am an RN and was willing to look at all safe options. I found high quality nutritional bioavailable supplements that turned down the inflammatory process throughout my body and in only a few weeks I was off all chemo, shots, anti-depressants and reduced pain pills from 6-8/day to 1 a week. My torn rotator cuff has healed, I have more energy than ever and I can perform any physical activity that I only once dreamed of before. I never dared dream that I could be pain free....but I am and these products have given me my life back. It's been a gift from God and I will never stop taking them. If anyone wants to talk about it in detail I would be happy to share. My email is jpope116@yahoo.com.

Laura, you just reminded me that my grandpa used to tell me the same thing about popping my knuckles and causing arthritis! Turns out it is just a myth:

Knuckle Cracking Myths[buzzle.com]

I remember totally believing him too! At least it got me to stop cracking them- it annoyed my parents. :)

I've heard two opposing thoughts when it comes to arthritis in hands. I grew up being told that popping my knuckles would cause arthritis later, but then in later years, the message was that popping your knuckles kept the fluid moving and would prevent arthritis. Is it that black and white or is it more an individual experience?

After reading all of your posts, I'm reminded that a healthy diet is really the foundation of good health!

The one thing I always wonder about is whether rest or movement is a good "remedy". My mom's arthritis, especially in her back, can definitely make her feel like she wants to take it easy. But is rest the best thing? And if not, what activities can she do that won't cause her pain? I've heard about water aerobics or other water-based activity. Has anyone had experiences with it?

Laura

Fish oil, omega 3. Recent research by two well known MD's recommend taking no less than 3000 mg (3 gel caps) for releif and I take this amount three times a day...........large doses like this do not hurt you. I take three in a.m., three at lunch and three before going to bed at night. Instead if taing pain killers these fish oil amounts relieve my pain without harmful side effects. The two MD's recently published their last year's research in form of an "e" book that can be purchased on line. One major thing I did that also helps.....NO MORE SUGAR in my diet and raw broccoli is best cartlidge rebuilder. Just to name a few of their findings. Good fishing !!!!

QUIT EATING RED MEAT FOR SURE HELPS PREVENT A LOT OF HEALTH PROBLEMS THAT MAY OCCUR. I STARTED EATING SALMON AND TUNA AND SOMETIMES A LITTLE CHICKEN (NOT FRIED). ALSO TO REPAIR JOINTS I AM TAKING FLEXCIN...800-505-0545 AND I WOULD NOT BE WITHOUT IT. BEFORE FLEXCIN I HAD LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH MOBILITY. MY HUSBAND IS A VEGGAN AND THAT ALSO HELPS WITH MY DIET. GOOD LUCK

My husband has been drinking Tart cherry juice daily for years. The natural red color is the anti - inflammatory ingredient. He has run 48 marathons and is still in fantastic physical shape at the age of 68.

Twelve years ago I started to worry about arthritis since it runs in my family. My hands were so stiff in the mornings. I started eating a Roasted Red Pepper (from a jar you can buy in the grocery store near the olives) EVERY DAY on top of a Bagel with cream cheese. It took about two months before I realized I had absolutely no stiffness in my hands. I don't know if the NATURAL RED ingredient is the same as the one in the TART Cherry juice but I KNOW that it works. I work in the Fitness Industry and I tell EVERYONE about both of these remedies that helped us!

No one has mentioned MSM.

If you are not alergic to Sulphur compounds, It works to cut joint pain significantly. I combine it with Glucosamine and Chrondoitin (Osteo-Biflex) as mentioned earlier. They have a product that has added MSM, but it is not enough.

Vitamin Shoppe has MSM in 1000Mg caps. You can get their store brand on sale right now...300 caps for under $25. You need at least 4000 Mg / day to start, and with the Osteo-Biflex taken as directed you can become pain free, or nearly so. Sams has the Osteo-Biflex and sometimes the MSM, but I prefer VS MSM because the pills are easier to swallow and work faster. This has worked for me for the last 10 years or so. I run out and I am in pain for weeks until I get things back to normal. My problem is my left sholder and hip joints.

BTW I am now 65. My first regular SS check comes tomorrow.

MAGNESIUM OIL! This stuff is amazing. Got some from my Naturopathic MD for muscle cramps and it worked great. But then I tried it on my mom's arthritis and it gave her almost instant relief! She uses it daily now and has no pain at all.

In fact, magnesium oil seems to work on most any bone or muscle pain! I' share it with everyone who complains of any kind of body pain and have had folks with fibromyalgia get relief as well as though with stiff backs, sore knees, you name it! Seems all our food is deficient in magnesium these days, so we are too, and the ills that creates are many. Cheap fix -- definitely worth a try.

Recommend you put it on the soles of your feet as things are very quickly absorbed into the body there (try it with Vicks Vaporub next time you have a cold and have relief - you'll be amazed at how fast breathing improves.) Hope this helps!

Also try and cut out wheat and gluten from your diet when flare ups occur. Arnica which is an ointment available in health food stores (I believe it is a flower) is excellent for reducing pain and swelling.

Resist the temptation to give in to the pain and walk, stretch, etc - keep movin'

peace
