The New York Times is interested in doing a story about caregiving and has asked if they could interview a few of our members whose devotion to their caregiving responsibilities has ultimately put a strain on them, either financially, within their marriage or on their health.  If you fall into one or more of these categories and are interested in participating, email Kirby Freeman at kirby@caring.com with your name and a little bit about your story

Thank you!

Update!

Thank you to everyone who has emailed Kirby with their stories.  They're all amazing and a true testiment to your dedication to care giving!

We are still in search of a care giver who had experienced financial strain due to their responsibilities.  Perhaps you've had to quit your job or modify your home to accomodate your aging parent.  If you fall into that category, Kirby would love to talk with you.  You can email her direclty at kirby@caring.com

Thank you!

My mother had a breakdown and was hospitalized. The psychiatrist told her that she could not live alone so she came to live with my husband and me. My husband passed away and the children went away to college. I sold her home and my home and we moved into a small townhouse. I retired after my husband passed and then got a different job continuing to work to pay the bills.  Mom is on a very limited income so I support her and myself. I drive her to all her appointments,  buy the food, and pay for all the house related bills and taxes. She pays for her additional medical insurance. It has put a strain on my budget and I actually work two jobs now to keep up with everything.
