I live in Virginia, my mother in Florida. She is still somewhat independent with the help of my brother who lives with her. She is having some dementia problems and takes a lot of medication including narcotics for chronic back pain. Home health has been helping her put her medications in a weekly med box so she knows what to take and when, but that ends this week. They can continue but it will cost her $125 each visit (for less than one hour) and she cannot afford that. Can anyone suggest any resources where I could find this kind of help for her at a reasonable or no cost?

Hi Francine,

I'm confused.  Is this a weekly visit your mom was getting to help her set up her meds?  Or did they come daily to help her administer them?

If it was just a weekly visit, is there any way your brother could take over this duty?  My dad took a pharmacy's worth of medication each week and my mom would get it ready for the week for him on Sundays.

Another resource you may want to do is check out Caring.com's Local section.  There you can plug in your mom's zip code and find contact information to agencies in that area.

Hope that helps!
