What are you doing today to help ensure good eldercare for yourself as you get older?
I'm a bit young to do it yet, but I FULLY intend on purchasing longterm care insurance for my husband and I. My mom has a policy with great coverage and I can't tell you what peace of mind it's brought her. LTC insurance definitely is not a good idea for everyone, but assuming we have the resources when it makes sense to buy it, we're doing it!
Yes, ditto for me on the Long Term Care insurance. It's no longer just nursing home insurance, but can be used for inhome care too. The younger you are, the lower your premiums, so even though I'm only 55 and hope I don't need it for a long time, we took it out already.
Long term care insurance for myself and my husband (who is quite a bit older than me - I am only 45). Living within our means and continuing to maintain savings even in retirement. Completed thorough Advanced Health Care Directives, and power of attorney documents. Maintaining more than 50% equity in our home (even as home prices drop) so that later in life it is a resource not a liability. Thinking ahead about moving into a more physically accessible space or make our current home more accessible. Getting comfortable with assisted living so that if that makes the most sense I don't resist it and make life harder for my son! Educating myself about aging so I can face it more realistically!
