You can call the following:

HUD 1-800-569-4287 This is the HUD counseling office

For government information go to: www.yourhome.ca.gov [ca.gov] (if in CA)

www.hud.gov/foreclosure [hud.gov].

www.FTC.gov [FTC.gov] or (887)FTC-HELP

HOPE - Center for Foreclosure Solutions, a community-based organization that is available to assist consumers facing the threat of foreclosure. 888-995-HOPE or www.995hope.org [995hope.org]

Or, contact your state's attorney general's office, dept of real estate, and/or dept of aging.

Have you tried calling their lender to see about a loan modification if they still owe on their loan? You can negotiate your own loan modification with the lender. Do not pay a company to do this for you because these companies are usually scams. Check with the local BBB if you decide to. Most of these companies have you pay up to $3,000 for a loan mod and then don't do anything. If their house is paid for then you can check to see about a reverse mortgage but be sure you check the company out first with BBB, Consumer Affairs, or Attorney General's Office. But I would call HOPE first and go from there.

Good luck.
