Is keeping working during radiation treatment a welcome distraction or even possible?
I'm wondering for a dear friend with a recent cancer diagnosis. I want to know how to support her. Should I make sure she takes a leave of absence or support her in keeping working during the radiation?
Have you helped loved ones through surgery and radiation? What was radiation like for you and for them?
A dear , young and vibrant friend of mine also had a cancer diagnosis and underwent radiation. In her case, she was able, and wanted, to keep working. She's the type of gal who thrives in the workplace, though. I almost believe her prognosis would have suffered if she were forced to not work. So I guess what I'm saying is that it depends on the person. My dad also had radiation and it was really tough on him. He was in his 60's, though, and in overall poor health. He was unable to work.
If your friend wants to try to continue working, support her. If she wants to cut back hours or take a leave of absence, support her. It sounds like she's lucky to have you!
To work or not to work is entirly up to her. My wife had chemo and radiation for lung cancer, in her case the daoctor said go and enjoy what you can. Except you can't work because you work for a school system and are around a bunch of children everyday. so if she ahd worked anyplace but the school she would have been working the entire time. As soon as she could she was back at it. Just suport her and her decision.
Thank you guys so much for your responses.
I certainly don't feel like it's my place to tell my friend what to do.
I was really just wanting help knowing if it was even possible to work during radiation since I think my friend will want to. She is just overwhelmed with tests and doctor's appointments and whether she'll need chemo or not. I thought I could help her gather experiences and wisdom.
Thank you.
