With the economy so bad these days and the cost of medical care increasing, I thought it would be a good time to ask- "What's your biggest money-saving tip in regards to caregiving?"
I recently read a tip that could help keep down the cost of prescriptions. As anyone who has been a caregiver to someone with cancer knows, prescription costs alone can eat up a huge chunk of your budget! Since most drugs cost the same (or nearly the same) regardless of the dosage, you can ask the doctor to write the prescription for twice the strength you need. You then cut the pill in half before you take it (so that you take the correct dosage). Of course, safety is the most important thing so be sure that the person in charge of giving and/or taking the medicine is up to the responsibility of this task. You can also request the generic versions of the drugs which are cheaper.
I can't wait to hear everyone else's tips!
