I'm not taking care of my mother, I am trying to take care of myself in my home, after 2 hip replacement and 2 knee replacements. This joint problem was caused primarily from the amount of steroids given to me from 1993 to 2003 to keep me alive.

Now I must endure these painful surgeries, and just need a little extra help so I can come to my home instead of a nursing home. My husband died in 2003, so I'm all I got. I do not believe that I qualify for the medical program, as I have worked hard up until 1993, when I became suddenly disabled and apparently this benefit is reserved for the lower income people on SSI and medical, I am on SSD and medicare, and living paycheck to paycheck. Why would this program only avaliable to the people that did not have great jobs or did not make the money I did prior to 1993. I just need about 6 or 8 weeks of part time assistance, so I can stay in my home. I an a widow, have no children, and few friends. WHAT CAN I DO??????????????? PLEASE HELP ME......JEN

Hello,

I know your post was a while ago, but I may be able to help. I worked with a company in the past that would purchase a life insurance policy from someone fighting cancer and other illnesses. They buy it outright as a piece of property. Your grandma would receive a large percentage of the face amount of the policy up-front in a lump sum and never have to pay premiums again.

This option would allow her to help out your mom for her time while allowing her to keep the rest of her belongings.

The website is: www.sellyourinsurance.com [sellyourinsurance.com]. The company is really great and personal. I believe in them so much that I'm trying to spread the word about what they can do.

Hope this helps!

I have had my mom for 6 1/2 years now, so I have learned alot about this subject. Medicare will pay for a RN to come in , but it has to be prescribed by the doctor. And they come in once or twice a week to check vitals and talk to you and gone with in an hour. They do evaluations and will dismiss her if they think it's necessary. The only way I have found to recieve help on a more full time basis is to put the person on state assistance, My mom still has a home and life insurance, that the state will take if I was to put her on it. Call your local Welfare office (not sure the new name of it) and they will tell you all you need to know. But if she has anything , they will take it, bonds, savings, realestate, life insurance etc...... Hope this helps

Hi,

My grandmother was diagnosed with Colon Cancer a few months ago after 6 Hospitalizations in which Drs. found nothing wrong with her and my mother has suddenly found herself caring for her 24/7. She has 2 major strokes, has Alzheimer's and to top it off is a diabetic. Due to caring for my grandma, my mom is unable to work and some people have said that Medicare and Medicaid help caregivers with some financial help while going through this. Is this true? Where can I find out more information?
