Have not had this problem. Am wondering what is triggering her? Is she aware that it is the doctor's office when she arrives? Is it dislike of this particular doctor? Or is she confused about where she is and scared and wants to mask that be staying in the car? Can you "bribe" her with something she enjoys - like "we'll go out to lunch after we see the doctor, but only if you cooperate with him/her"?
Hello, everyone! This is my first post. My mother has AD and I am having more and more trouble getting her to go to the doctor or to any medical appointment. She's never liked the medical profession. Luckily (or maybe because she's avoided doctors most her life?), she is very healthy except for the Alzheimer's. Last time I brought her to her doctor's appointment, she would not get out of the car once we got to the medical clinic. I got the doctor's medical assistant to help me. She was able to convince my mother to go inside the clinic and the waiting room to wait for her appointment. The doctor ordered a blood panel. Now, again I'm faced with having to get my mother to go to the lab. Unless I tell her something like "We're going out for lunch," she won't even get into the car. So I can trick into getting into the car (we actually do go out to eat after), but once I'm there, she won't budge. She sits and insists she is "not going." Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas?
