mother has dementia

I'm so sorry your mom is dealing with dementia.  The good news is that there are stages of severity and if she's not progressed very far, then you may have a good long time with her being mostly well, cognitively.  I don't know that there is a set schedule at which dementia worsens.  She may stay in the early stages forever.
