Recently my mom, who has dementia, has gone from having little appetite to eating everything in sight. In 2 days she ate an entire bag of apples, a box of Hostess snacks, a bag of potato chips and 3/4 lb of cheese. Explaining to her that this is too much doesn't work. Neither does "hiding" the food as she finds it and eats it while we aren't around (like the middle of the night).

I'm glad her appetite is improved, but this is too much! Not to mention that I can't afford this kind of grocery bill. Any ideas why she is suddenly eating so much and how to handle this?
