I have just come from court and I'm happy to say that after 5 months and $50,000 I have just been awarded Guardianship of my Dad. It was not only outrageously expensive (complicated by a stepfamily) it was completely brought on for the wrong reasons.I had to crosspetition to be heard even though I was his only daughter. My advice for anyone with aging parents . Before their are signs of dementia or serious health issues get to an attorney and have all the proper paperwork in place. Although my Dad had a living will which was executed in the hospital we never noticed the second witness had not completed the paperwork. Now that he has full blown dementia we had to proceed with a guardianship application. I want to thank everyone, this website is most helpful and I have found not only a tremendous amount of information but great comfort. Bub
