Absolutely Lucy! I'd make your first stop the local Area Agency on Aging. If you google 'agency on aging' along with your zip code or city and town, it should bring up the local agency for you. They are mandated by the federal government to help people fnd and get services. You'll probably have to do an 'assessment' with one of the social workers. But they can tell you what you may be eligible for and how to find it. It might be a little bureaucratic, and require a little persistence, but it is likely to pay off. Good luck!
I just found this web site and I was reading through the topics I see a lot of people having the same problems that I do. I moved in with my parents about 2 years ago to help out - my mother was diagnosed about that same time. I've recently decided to add a downstairs bathroom on to avoid any "accidents" and hope that a ADA shower will help her shower more often. But my primary question is about finances. I don't want to put my mother in any type of home - I want to stay with her but I work 40 hours a week. Are there any programs for caregivers to help financially that I can look into?
