My Mom's Dr. changed her medication from buspar to zoloft. She did not seem depressed before, but now she does not even want to drink her coffee, which is one of her favorite things. Her Doc is out of town, does anyone have experience with Zoloft?
Hi Laura Ann,
I've known several people that take Zoloft for depression, but none have Alzheimer's. I'm not sure if your mom's experience would be different because of her condition.
Does your mom's doctor have anyone covering for him/her? Usually there is someone on call to talk too. If your mom's behavior has changed dramatically from, presumably, from starting a new med, a doctor should absolutely know. Don't be shy to call.
Hopefully someone else will have some more specific advice for you. Keep us updated! I'll be thinking about you and your mom.
Hi Laura Ann,
I"ve not had experience with that particular drug, but I do know that the experience of each is really different for everyone. Just wanted to encourage you to follow up with doctor too. Normally there is always someone on call - though you may need to be persistent with the answering service.
Also, you should find out why she was on the one and the doctor switched her to the other. Why does she need these. Can she go back to the other.
Good luck!!
Thanks for the advise. It is so funny how we usually know the solution to the problem, just need someone else to point it out. I called the office again and I am waiting on a call back from the Doctor that is taking his calls.
I'm glad you gave the office a call, Laura. Let us know what steps happen. :)
As I understand my pyschiatrist, zoloft is a help for disorders like PMS, Post Traumatic Syndrome, anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome. I take wellbutrin for depression. If she's depressed, I wouldn't think zoloft by itself would be enough. If she's just anxious all the time, then zoloft would be sufficient. Pass this on to your health care provider and see what his reaction is.
That's helpful information, Bev, thanks for sharing that!
