Hello, can anyone offer advice for my sister and I. My mother shows many signs of alzheimer's, but continues to be diagnosed with depression. Has this happedned to anyone else? She is now putting her clothes on backwards, and forgetting to bathe.
Hi Kayla! Welcome to the Community.
I'm sorry to hear about your mother. It must be frustrating when you feel like your concerns are not being heard.
Here's the page on Alzheimer's Alzheimer's Disease. It includes the signs and symptoms. You might check that list against what you're observing in your mother and perhaps take that with you to the next doctor's appointment.
Let us know how it goes, ok?
~Laura
Kayla - You have every right to be concerned about your mother's change in behavior. These type mental changes are not what is commonly seen with "depression". It is possible to see this type change as a side effect of anti-depression medication or drug interaction with other medications and that possibility needs to be considered. Also, do not be afraid to ask your mother's healthcare provider for a referral to a neurologist for a thorough evaluation if she has not have one in the past 6 months.
Please keep us posted how things are going. My thoughts are with you and your mother.
