In addition to the family and financial woes almost all addicts face, there are also some challenges that specifically affect elderly addicts. The main challenge that I personally noticed with my family was that the addiction seem to wreak more havoc on their body. This was in part due to their increased age but also due to the fact that they went many many years without seeing a doctor. This led to a "backstock" of health problems they needed to get a handle on in addition to their addiction. Even after they were on the road to recovery, they weren't able to "bounce back" as quickly as someone who was younger. What sorts of unique challenges and obstacles have you noticed in your loved one's struggle with addiction?
