Bio
I live in San Francisco with my husband. I'm lucky that my siblings live in the Bay Area as well.
My father died at home in 2005 at age 93. In his last few years, I maintained his checkbook and helped him in other ways; my sister managed his care overall. I was the executor of his estate and managed the sale of my parents' house.
My mother-in-law, now 90, lived with us for three years. In late 2007 she moved to the dementia care unit in a senior community in SF, as we realized that she needs more attention than we can give her at home and more than assisted living can provide. Her day-to-day life during the last 6-9 months, both in our house and in her current senior residence, has been a lot less fun for her than it was, say, two years ago, as her physical and mental capacities have declined. This makes me sad.
