Hi, everyone, i am the primary caregiver for my mother-in-law who has mid to late stage AD, Type 2 Diabetes, and is a fall risk. She is being treated for anemia and complains loudly when we won't turn on the heat in our hot Alabama climate. She insists on sleeping under eight or more blankets, quilts, and comforters, because she thinks she is freezing. I have had to remove several of them from her bed, so she won't overheat, lose electrolytes, etc. I knew her back when she taught at the university and was a gourmet cook. She was there for me when i had a serious bout of clinical depression. I want to be there for her. I am on forced bedrest now, as i hurt my back taking care of her. We have someone coming in every day, and we spend the night with her. it is taking its toll on all of us. We pray a lot and our faith helps us get through the really hard days. I call the local Altsheimers Association and they give us really good advice on things to do for her. I have a lot of books on dementia and caring for the aged, and that helps. We swim, watch funny movies, and bake cookies. We keep in touch with the people who love us and all of these things help us get through with what has become one of the most difficult times of our lives. I hope what I have shared will help some of you who are going through similar circustances. God bless ,Army Mom
