does anyone have any tips on hiring home health care workers? We are on our 4th caregiver and second agency. Most of them are not intelligent enough to turn on simple alarms or change the thermostat, and most speak english so poorly it becomes a safety problem...

My father flat refuses to move into a assisted living facility.  He is 89, is not feeding himself properly and is loosing weight.  His house is cluttered and where he prepares his food is filthy.  We tried Meals on Wheels which really was not very good and he cancelled...

My husbands parents have finally been convinced, perhpas coerced, into giving up the family home. They are both in their 80s. The big house is too expensive and too much to manage. The kids worry about what if. What if one should die, then the other clearly not manage alone in the big house...

My mother-in-law is in a longterm care facility and has really really limited space.  With Mother's Day quickly approaching, I'm having a hard time coming up with a gift for her!

Candles aren't necessarily safe for her.  She's got no room for picture frames or similar...

hello all!  I just ran across this site.. so glad to see it.  My dad n law has alzheimers..who is in nursing home in Lex. and I need to relocate him here..so  my mom n law , who will soon be living with us, will be close to him here in Indps...

Moving our parents into our homes is sometimes a decision we ponder and other times happens really quickly without chance for reflection.

In either case, it usually changes our life for the good and for the bad in ways that we couldn't have predicted.

What do you feel is the biggest tip or piece of advice for others who have a parent or other loved one living in their home? While I believe books and articles are an amazing resource, some of the best advice I've gotten in life is from others who have been in similar situations...

It's likely that you didn't have the luxury.

You might be the only sibling living close to your parents, or the one who could change their work most easily.

But, what are the boundaries that help you make it work?

Eating out with your spouse once a week...
