What will you give your dad for Father's Day?

Even though your dad can't get out very well, make the effort to do so on his special day:   movies (but watch out for the sex and language), picnic lunch at a park (make sure there is shade for him), even the beach (with shade) for awhile(at least he will get some fresh air), local comedy or musical presentation, if you have a gambling casino nearby go for just an hour,anything doing at the Senior Center?  You could even plan the "field trip" on a day when places are not so crowded. The zoo and a hotdog, baseball game, an auto-racing event  - even if he can't manage to stay for the whole thing. The important thing is spending time with him and getting him some fresh air. My dad likes lottery and scratch off tickets. I'll buy him a bunch. He is 93 and for his birthday he received 93 scratch off tickets. If your dad , has a car how about a book of car washes and car detailing? All of these my not apply to your dad but maybe others can benefit from this info.

For once, I actually came up with a great idea for my dad. I have two small children and we live in another state, but we're going to be visiting him at the end of the month. So I sent him a package with the following:

- Cards from me and my husband

- Cards the kids made, with photos of them tucked inside

- A kit for making garden stepping stones: http://www.amazon.com/Creativity-Kids-Enchanted-Garden-Stones/dp/B00004TFGF

He and the kids can make the stepping stones together when we visit, and then he can keep them in his garden to remind him of them after we leave. I know it may not seem like it's really from me, his daughter, but the gift of time spent with his grandkids was the one thing he doesn't have.

Dad is having surgery tomorrow to roto-rooter his leg due to peripheral artery disease and we'll be going out to dinner tonight to celebrate Father's Day early.  On Sunday he'll still be recovering so we're just going to hang out with him at home and order pizza.  The garden stone kit may be a good thing to do then.
