Thank you Greg & Missy,
Just an FYI for both.
Missy, we have been using homecare during the day but take care of him during the evenings and weekends ourselves - the homecare people cannot do anything medical such as cut fingernails, take medication out of bottles, change catheters, bowel stimulation, apply duadurms, etc. We are continually having to take off work to meet with medical staff and take care of all medical things that cannot wait. Great idea if we could continue. Also the cost is outrageous and only about $25K difference for skilled nursing home, which includes food, meds, 24 hour medical care, activities, physical therapy, etc. It's near impossible to transport him and in some cases if he has to go to the hospital, we've had to use an ambulance because Outreach, etc. will not pick up if it's not scheduled. Again, just an FYI.
Greg, thank you for your information. I will definitely look into Plum Tree. Believe it or not, right after the accident over a year ago we were kicked out of Manor Care because my father was unable to do rehab and they sent him to Stanford where we found out he was in Acute Renal Failure. Because of our experience there and our recent experience at Our Lady of Fatima Villa, I am reaching out for suggestions.
My father is not a trach or ventilator patient (one good thing going for us!) but he is paralyzed from the chest down and uses a catheter full time. He is in good spirits, good humored, not combative and non-abusive (another thing going for us).
I appreciate everyone's responses in this very difficult time.
Regards
