My 88-yr old widowed mother has lived with us for over two years now. She has dementia. She doesn't have the resources for an assisted living facility or nursing home. She is incontinent and is unable to clean herself. Although my husband is wonderful and provides much of her care, the day-to-day stress of caring for my mom is taking its toll on both of us. What kind of help is out there? Does any agency provide low-cost home visits to assist with her personal hygeine, etc.? I spend most of my nights and weekends waiting on her, giving her meals, a shower, doing her laundry, paying her bills, etc. We tried to hire an reputable agency to stay with her while we were on vacation. They did a three-hour home evaluation and we paid them over $1000 upfront. Everything was pre-arranged and then we found out they never showed up. She fell and laid on the floor for a whole day before my sister came and found her. We rarely can leave her alone for more than a few hours... We just need a break once in awhile...
