Parent with suspected Alzheimer's who refuses help

Oh gosh - that's a tough one!  What may help is stressing to your parents that prompt treatment can possibly slow down the symptoms.  They don't just have to throw up a white flag to Alzheimer's.  The fight is sometimes worth it!  Another thing to make sure your parents know is that they have some control in their health care.  A doctor is there to help them understand.  They don't have to accept treatment.  A screening is nothing more...   It's not a committment.

Oh, I'm sorry! This is a difficult situation. I would suggest the same as Missy - prompt action now could very well slow the symptoms down or maybe it's not even what she fears it is. She is still the one making the decisions. If it were you and she were worried about you, what would she want YOU to do? Sometimes turning the tables helps folks see things from another perspective and understand.

My mother-in-law was also in denial, she is now stage 4...I would call the alzheimers assoc. and talk to them..They can send out   brochures that explain everything from beginning signs to treatments options, what to expect at the doctor and all that sort of thing..

They also have people that talk with you to give you ideas on how to get your loved ones to go to the doctor..

They have an 800 # and you will be surprised at all the info they can send to both you and your mom..
