Thank You for this very important "check list" . I need to know all I can before making this very important decision...

Last month my brother who lives in a nursing home with MS in Maryland lost his long time girlfriend of 25 years. She was his financial, legal & health care power of attorney. So last month I did a health care power of attorney listing myself as primary agent, mother as secondary agent. This was only for in the case that my brother is not able to make a medical decision. Well today I received a bill in the mail, in my name, for my brother's past due and current charges totaling $3100.00 I never signed anything with the nursing home! What makes me, his sister, responsible?

I am going threw this now, a New Jersy Nursing Home is asking me to sign paper work for my mother and they accept Medicaid & Community Medicad, she has died and now they are asking me to pay privately. They said she was not in thier long enough for the Medicaid to be approved, 6 days in Nursing Home. I am so thankful for this information, now I know they are trying to force me to be the responsible party..
