My bloodpressure was around 140/80/75 in Jan. Now I have lost about 30lbs, my BP is around 115/70/65 in the afternoon. I'm 53 year old male (5'11") . I count calories, try to eat healthy but do not not want to make my life difficult going to extremes. I have pizza maybe once a week or a burger. I just eat smaller portions, 3 meals + 2 snacks daily, I have something every 3 hours, whether I am hungry or not. This helps with insulin levels and keeping food portions small at meals. I'm still trying to lose more weight, so I try stay at least 500 cal below my daily consumption. I walk daily, pedometer reads around 7000-8000 steps. I also do about 30-45 min gym workout 5 times a week. This routine works for me an does not interfere with "normal" daily family life.

One of the problems on these sites is that the specimen blood pressures given are far too low to be of any use to me. My normal blood pressure is in the range of 190-230 over 125-155. I had kidney failure some years back and have been tried on all available blood pressure medication and nothing works - everything either causes massive side effects or (normally) tends to make my kidneys malfunction. . My blood pressure is often 190 over 125 or so but will rise for no reason. I would like to find out from others with blood pressure this high how they manage it.

My elderly mother has had two heart attacks 30 years apart. The last one was last summer. Since then her blood pressure every morning is around 200/80. After she takes her medicine it drops to around 110/75. When I ask her what the doctor says, she replies that he says she is lucky to be alive. Can you address the issue 200/80 and its implications, please.

I had 7+ lumbar fusions and spine correction with rods recently done (5 days ago). My BP dropped to 50/20. I was given transfusions - 9 during the 12 hr surgery and another 2 a couple nights later when the pressure dropped so much. I'm usually 120/65-70 or even 130/80. I was given potassium and overall think the major cause was that I had been taking a muscle relaxer long-term (they kept me on it), but then added pain medication. The combination of the two was probably the cause. Also b/c my mean arterial pressure was good, it wasn't thought to be anything else. Should be over 60 (if I remember right) ad mine was 75. Your answers here really helped me understand this a little more too.

I would like to know what age is considered "older"? Over 40? 50? 70? What would a bp of 88 over 61 mean, age 51, prior stroke, current ear, eye, nose and throat infection - been fighting for over a year.

I regularly test my blood pressure twice daily, systolic between 107-120 but diastolic between 47 -59, never over 60. typical reading last night before going to bed: 107 over 47, pulse 56. Is that anything to worry about? No medication of any kind taken.

I normally have very high blood pressure such as 180/120 but today it was 111/101 . What does this mean? I am waiting for a valve replacement but I have never had such a strange reading.

This statements never mention how long. I have high blood pressure, 160 / 90 if I run up the stairs. But if I sit down and take it 5 minutes later, it drops to 130/80, or if I lay down, 120/760. What does it mean when you have high blood pressure. is it high always?

Thanks for this articule. Very educative. But u created fear in me when u refer reading between 120/90 as pre hypertensive.

What would have made it better? Absolutely nothing, it was both educational and informative.

The Blood Pressure Levels

over 12 years, said...

I rate the information on high scale. Without confusing the patient it provides directives that are extremely useful.

almost 13 years, said...

Goodwrite-up. However, it seems to suggest that a reading of 120/80 is "pre-hypertension" or "high normal". This could scare someone!! There is no mention about the time when pressure is checked (as it can vary from morning to night). Also, no mention about the body position when it is checked (as it can vary on whether you are standing, sitting or lying down). Also, no mention about taking an average of 3-4 readings - and NOT panicking after seeing a single reading! Rest is good and quite informative!

I wanted to understand what both readings are for not so much what it means. What is each top and bottom measurement from. The rest of the article was very well written.
