Candle Story for Steve Gibson
gibster made this candle.
My beloved brother succumbed to his illness on November 18, 2009. At 51, he fought for nineteen years. He was ridiculed and stigmatized as his illness progressed (showing skin changes, very slow walk, and progressively-deteriorating speech). Some of his family and friends stole money from him, fatally wounded his pet dog Damien (which was entrusted to their care) and duped him in other ways when he was at his most vulnerable. Yet, he kept himself and even us going! In fact, the last time I saw him, he was still trying to take a step -- by dragging his good foot on the floor while I pushed him in his wheelchair. He was steadfast in his plans to walk again. That resilient spirit of his shines on and is the same as that with which any one of us faces any and all tough diagnoses -- whether it be HIV/AIDS, cancer or countless others. I love you with all my soul, Steve. Your sister, Terry.
