My grandmother was the first diagnosed. She died in 1980. Back then it was called Dementia and Hardening of arteries. Her daughter, my aunt, diagnosed with Alzheimer's died in 1999. She was my mother's older sister. My mother has had signs of the disease for several years but was not officially diagnosed until June 2009. I am her only child & will be her caregiver as long as we can manage together.
