The added sugar in cranberry juice is bad on your kidney not to mention your blood sugar. A cranberry supplement is best. Watering down any juice is a good trick.

Make sure the cranberry juice IS PURE. Many juices contain High Fructose Corn Syrup - read the labels. The main ingredient in cranberry juice is D-Mannose. It can be purchased at a good health products store - comes in a powder-like form, start taking it at first sign of UTI. Disolves in juice, will reduce discomfort, shorten duration, will heal quicker. Keep on hand for future flare-ups. Should not need antibiotics using D-Mannose.

Cranberry capsules are much more effective than plain cranberry juice. I gave my mom cranberry capsules after a serious UTI led to a hospitalization and she got no more UTIs for almost two years.

My partner was told to drink at least 6 glasses of cranberry juice each day for her kidney and UTIs. She hates the taste and won't do it. We found a product called Cystex Cranberry which is pure and one tablespoon each day is the equivalent of 6-8 glasses of the stuff you buy in the store. We found it in our local neighborhood pharmacy and it costs about $10 per bottle. Make sure you request the liquid and not the pills. It is also sugar free and therefore okay for diabetics.
