I agree with your perspective. I live 600 miles from my mother, so when I visit her, I need to make the most of our time. I come with checklist in hand. But, I've learned (when I first arrive)to just sit and listen to Mom. That initial conversation helps me shift gears, slow down and focus on her. It sets the tone for the rest of my visit.
